From Komárno to Santorini: My Birthday Journey To The Most Beautiful Island.

For my birthday this year, last June 19, my husband gave me a gift that I will remember and be grateful for the rest of my life. It's a trip to the stunning Santorini Island in Greece. I have lots of places I want to travel to and one on my bucket list is Santorini. Santorini Island I've always longed to experience. One of my wish list-unlocked. My husband knows that is my ultimate dream destination. It wasn't just a birthday present but it was also creating memories together with my husband. It was about sharing an experience with my husband. Our trip to paradise Santorini Island turned into a reality that we'll always treasure forever.

The iconic white-washed houses and clinging to cliffs and of course the beautiful endless sea views of the island is so stunning. My heart was full of excitement and until now writing my blog my mind is still thinking of paradise. I'm so excited to share with you guys, our unforgettable adventure to remember. Our beautiful journey with my husband and I took us from our home to land to the magical place-Santorini.

Our journey last June 17,2025, it was Tuesday morning and raining. And that morning I will always remember and days to come for our shared memories for each other.

Our wake up call came at 4 A.M, filled with excitement for the adventure and anticipation for what lay ahead. My husband prepared our sandwiches to take with us, we checked our bags, made sure everything was ready, and left home with overflowing joy.

From our house , we drove to Komárno train station and then my husband parked the car near the station. And for days it will stay there.

And it was still raining and a cold morning while we were waiting for our train to arrive that would start our long journey. When we stepped onto the train the air felt so refreshing. Finally, at exactly 5:45 AM, our train to Bratislava City departed. It was a long train ride for 2 hours. That time I took a chance to sleep.

Then we reached the Bratislava Train Station. It's our next journey by bus going to the Austria Airport. It's around 45 minutes away.

We still have one hour before our next destination to Austria. While waiting for our Slovak Lines bus, there's a small coffee shop inside the train station. So my husband and I decided to enjoy a cup of coffee together. Sipping warm coffee and we were excited on our adventure. It felt so special to us that moment we will have a vacation together and without kids. Because they have their school trips too.

Once we finished our coffee, we made our way towards the bus station. It was our next leg of our journey. The bus ride to Austria airport in Schwechat took about 45 minutes. In the meantime, I took out my phone and started recording videos of Bratislava City. I’ve already been to Bratislava and the city looked so beautiful in the morning light.

Finally, we arrived at the Schwechat airport in Austria. My husband already had a check- in online. We went inside and dropped off our bags, and then we went to the assigned terminal and waited for about an hour before our flight to Santorini. It was a busy airport , but us travelers were full of excitement heading to different kinds of places. When it was time to board, we walked towards the plane with smiles on our faces and full of excitement.

Realizing that in just a few hours we would be stepping onto the most beautiful island-Santorini. And it's a dream come true to me.

Our flight to Santorini was supposed to take just over two hours and 30 minutes but we had a bit of a delay because of bag/luggage issues. Even so, I didn’t mind at all. Small delay doesn't bother me at all. I felt too excited for everything. Finally, we were ready to take off. As the plane departed the ground and took higher into the sky, I watched from the window and. And what I saw took my breath away.

The clouds formed as a majestic landscape. I seemed like I was floating above a dreamy sea of clouds. We're not always traveling by plane. Obviously what I did was snapping photos and recording videos of this stunning scenery. Capturing the beautiful blue endless sky, clouds and flying high above.

As we approached to our destination and for the first time I saw the glimpse of the sea surrounding Santorini. The deep blue water sparkled beneath the sun. And in the distance, I could see the island’s outline. My heart raced with excitement. And I said to my husband, "Is this really happening now?" —we were about to land in Santorini!

Looking down, the sight took my breath away, the white buildings clinging to the cliffs. It was just like in the photos and videos I really admired for years.

Santorini Island is a masterpiece of nature and is the picturesque landscape and the endless sea stretching beyond. And at that moment I saw from above, everything felt so perfect. As soon as we landed the plane, I knew our adventure started. From walking those narrow streets, trying the delicious Greek dishes, island tour and the most famous thing is watching the Santorini sunset together with my love.
