Bogota Mint Museum: Discovering a country's economic history [ENG// ESP]

In the heart of Bogota there is a place that tells the history of money in this country and in America. It is a place where you can review the memories and the evolution of the economic heritage with which for many years they were able to make transactions and acquire the goods, food and necessities needed to live. This place is located in the Mint Museum in the center of the city.

As always, it is a pleasure to visit this Worldmapping community and leave you with these places that you cannot miss. Each city has its own history and I think it is wonderful to be able to tell you not only my experience, but also to recommend you to visit this place and continue nourishing yourselves with life, because I firmly believe that traveling and knowing is living. Enough talking, let's get down to business. Let's get to know the Mint Museum of Bogota.

The Bogota Mint Museum is located in a colonial cloister, right next to the Botero Museum. The Mint Museum is a large house with colonial style and inside you will be able to see the Numismatic Collection of the Banco de la República since 1996. But in the place are also the first gold coins of America from 1622.

In the coin showrooms there are directional speakers. When you stand under the speaker, only you will be able to hear the story told about the coins in front of you. The stories I was able to hear about these pieces put them in context and allowed me to reflect on economic, financial, numismatic, social, political, environmental and cultural issues. From macroeconomic policy to the intimacy of the pockets, coins and banknotes that today are part of the reality of Colombia.

For me it was a great learning experience, because I also got to see the coins of my country, because Venezuela before being Venezuela, was part of the history of Gran Colombia and then was separated in 1830, after a process that began in 1826 with the movement of La Cosiata.

So touring this place was not only to learn about the history of Colombia, it also hid a lot about my country. In the exhibition I not only saw coins; in the place there are: coins, banknotes, securities, documents, printing machines, works of art and archaeological pieces that are part of the 100 years of collection that the Banco de la República has formed throughout its 100 years of existence.

If you want to experience this part of the history not only of Colombia, but also of all America, I recommend you to visit this place. Admission is free and you can get there by TransMilenio and get off at the Museo del Oro station. From there you must walk several blocks south along Carrera 7a until you reach the Plaza de Bolivar. And there is located the Museum.

En el corazón de Bogotá hay un lugar que te cuenta la historia del dinero de este país y de América. Es un lugar donde haces un repaso por las memorias y la evolución del patrimonio económico con el que durante muchos años lograron hacer transacciones y adquirir los bienes, alimentos y requerimientos necesarios para poder vivir. Ese lugar está en el Museo Casa de Moneda en pleno centro de la ciudad.

Como siempre un gusto pasar por esta comunidad de Worldmapping y dejarles estos lugares que no pueden dejar de visitar y conocer. Cada ciudad tiene su historia y me parece maravilloso poder contarles no solamente mi experiencia, también hacerles la recomendación de que visiten este lugar y se sigan nutriendo de vida, porque creo firmemente que viajar y conocer es vivir. Basta de hablar, vamos a lo que vamos. Vamos a conocer el Museo Casa de Moneda de Bogotá.

El Museo de la Casa de Moneda de Bogotá está ubicado en un claustro colonial, está justo al lado del Museo de Botero. El Museo de la Casa de Moneda es una casona con estilo colonial y dentro vas a poder ver la Colección Numismática del Banco de la República desde 1996. Pero en el lugar también están las primeras monedas de oro de América de 1622.

En las salas de exposición de monedas hay unos parlantes direccionados. Cuando te paras debajo del parlante solo tú vas a poder escuchar la historia contada sobre las monedas que tienes en frente. Los relatos que pude escuchar en torno a estas piezas las pusieron en contexto y permitieron reflexionar sobre temas económicos, financieros, numismáticos, sociales, políticos, ambientales y culturales. Desde la política macroeconómica hasta la intimidad de los bolsillos, las monedas y billetes que hoy son parte de la realidad de Colombia.

Para mí fue una experiencia de muchísimo aprendizaje, porque además que logré ver las monedas de mi país, porque Venezuela antes de ser Venezuela, formó parte de la historia de la Gran Colombia y luego fue separada en 1830, tras un proceso que se inició en 1826 con el movimiento de La Cosiata.

Así que recorrer este lugar no solo fue conocer la historia de Colombia, también escondía mucho sobre mi país. En la exposición no solo vi monedas; en el lugar existen: monedas, billetes, títulos valores, documentos, máquinas de impresión, obras de arte y piezas arqueológicas que forman parte de los 100 años de colección que posee el Banco de la República ha formado a lo largo de sus cien años de existencia.

Si quieres vivir esta parte de la historia no solo de Colombia, si no también de toda América, te recomiendo que te des una pasada por este lugar. La entrada es gratuita y puedes llegar en TransMilenio y bajarte en la estación Museo del Oro. Desde ahí debes caminar varias cuadras hacia el sur por la carrera 7a hasta llegar a la Plaza de Bolívar. Y allí está ubicado el Museo.
