Discovery of a Little Beach - Let me Guide You There! (Gouves, Crete)
Today I thought I would be adventurous. A lot!
I planned to take a 2 hour journey with the car and go to a far, far away place! Oh, there would be so many new things to see, experience, photograph, and share!
But plans are meant to be changed.
So instead of the 2 hours drive, I took a 10 minute drive and decided that wanted to go to a new beach!
Privacy in plain sight!
This beach is right under a busy road, but you can go right under it, so noone will see you unless they come to the beach itself. It was difficult for me to take photos, because a couple had already taken that spot! I was there for about 2 hours and they were the only ones to be there (apart from an old lady who came right the moment I was leaving)
From a distance, you think this is only a rocky spot.
The Beach
The beach is not as sandy as I am used to. There are small colorful stones that make it easier for the visitors to clean themselves afterward. This, however, makes it more difficult for someone to walk barefoot in the beach.
I guess you can't have it all. Not always, for that matter.
There are some spots where you can sit and even sunbathe, but if more people discover this beach - then it will be really crowdy.
The ocean bed
The entrance to the water is not so easy, due to the small, tiny rocks. Most of the beach has rocks, so if you do not have the special shoes to get to the water, you will need to enter from the point of the little rocks.
Even if you do, there are rocks and stones all over the seabed. It is deep after a point, so you better be a good swimmer and if you enjoy snorkeling, then you will definitely find many spots to explore!

Close Up
There are many opportunities to take photographs and I guarantee that you will not be bored
What if you don't like it?
If you don't like it, you are free to leave at any point and discover a number of other beaches, organized or not!
Overall
Would I go there again?
To swim no. There are many other better options than this one. But I would definitely visit to take more photographs. There is a very scenic and beautiful church right next to this beach and there are some really amazing spots to walk by and to photograph. I plan to visit this village more when I have more spare time (lol)
What about Gouves Area?
Gouves is one of the lovely seaside Cretan Villages. It belongs to the Hersonissos municipality and is located at approximately 20km east of Heraklion city & Airport.
Gouves' history dates back to the Minoan era as per archaeological findings and caves.
Its name "Gouves" is the plural of "Gouva", which translates to hollows in the ground and it probably refers to the natural hollow spots in the landscape.
