Experiencing the Contrast Between Mountains and Plains

Hey Everyone!!

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the rural areas of the district where I currently reside. The sight was breathtaking—endless green fields stretching as far as the eye could see, covered with lush crops swaying gently in the wind. It was a mesmerizing view, one that I am not accustomed to, as I originally belong to a mountainous region where such vast plains are nonexistent.

Where I come from, farming is done through terrace cultivation, where farmers carve out steps on the slopes of the mountains to grow crops. This method is necessary because the terrain does not allow for large, flat fields. On the other hand, the plains I visited were covered with extensive agricultural lands, making farming much easier and more productive in terms of scale. The contrast between the two landscapes was striking, highlighting the diverse ways in which people adapt to their environments for survival and sustenance.

One of the most significant differences between the mountains and the plains is the climate. The mountainous areas tend to be much cooler, offering a refreshing escape from the scorching heat of the plains. The crisp mountain air and the serenity of nature provide a peaceful environment that is hard to find in urbanized or lowland regions. In contrast, the plains are often unbearably hot, especially during the summer months, making daily life more challenging. However, the plains also offer vast expanses of land for agriculture and settlement, which is not always possible in the rugged mountainous terrain.

Despite these differences, I find myself adapted to both environments. Since I moved to the plains after birth, I have grown accustomed to the lifestyle and climate here. However, my frequent visits to the mountains keep me connected to my roots. My parents, having been raised in the mountains, have ensured that I remain familiar with the traditions, culture, and beauty of our ancestral land. This dual connection allows me to appreciate the unique qualities of both places.

Visiting the fields reminded me of the beauty in diversity—how landscapes shape the way we live, work, and interact with nature. Whether it is the terraced farms of the mountains or the sprawling fields of the plains, each has its own charm and challenges. This experience has deepened my appreciation for both worlds, making me grateful for the opportunity to witness and embrace the beauty of nature in different forms.
