Shots from the sky | Mountains and seas

Things never seem to change as I am making this flight I can not get over how much I dislike the process of it all. The whole hanging and waiting beforehand while everyone seems to be a bit edgy. The boarding process when everyone tends to be in a hurry while all the seats are already assigned and still people feel like they need to make a rush out of it.

The kind of funky smell of the food being heated up in these sort of microwaves and the cart still walking by with tax free items which no one ever seems to buy. Why is still even a thing the selling stuff like watches in the sky, it feels like some kind of historical process.

The one thing that also never changes is that once you are up in the sky and everything has calmed down and there is no turbulence (very essential to my piece of mind!!!) is that the shots from the sky are just stunning and they look more like paintings than anything else.

Take this snap from the Austrian Alps, doesn't this look this some one has been fooling around with geometrical shapes and decided to make them into a stack with green and white in there?

As you can see.... the first snow has fallen already over the Alps and has brushed all the mountain tops white again.

These are the Dolomite mountains on the Italian Austrian border which I have always been dreaming about to ski there around these Sella Ronda routes.

The mountain tops are just different for some reason, more pointy and they just look really different compared to the 'regular' Alp mountain tops. More rugged and that also means more raw.

Super cool to see these from the top!

Venice

Continuing over the Italian landscape further down South the next thing we ran into was flying over Venice aka 'the sunken city' this was actually pretty cool to see. More than 10 years ago I have visited Venice once and from what I remember I had to take a 'water-taxi' to actually get to the main city.

I'm understanding a lot better now why that was the case, there is literally nothing around it land wise and it is just a city in the sea, and honestly...I hadn't realized this so well back then.

Here you can see very well on that there is a landing strip on the main land and a bridge connecting the city to the rest.

And also I hadn't realized that the reef/lagoon is protecting the city to much, that this is literally land which has been built that is the barrier between Venice an the open sea.

You even learn something here and there while being in the sky!

Korinthian channel

Now again but this time above Greece we were passing a highlight. The Korinthian channel is literally a channel where boats can pass through steep walls so they don't have to sail all the way around the Peloponessos to get to Athens connecting the Ionian see with the Sargonian sea.

Honestly, I would love to sail through this channel one day passing a cruise ship who is also doing this, but it also seems a bit stressful having a closed channel like that.

Especially while descending in the flight these landscapes become more and more clear and you can see all of the bumps and ridges and little bays where I can imagine to toss out my anchor and chill for the night on a boat.

The scenery is just beautiful to look at and it feels as if you can touch it all, even though you are still far above the ground.

I don't think I will ever be totally relaxed and comfortable with flying, but I will never stop enjoying all these shots from the sky and whatever landscapes passing with it along.

"Mountains and seas" look amazing! Wish they'd ditch the tax-free cart though 😂
