Big Horn Sheep

Hello Hivers

It is the end of the mating season for the Big Horn Sheep. I spotted a large herd on a mountain side and went to take a look.

Some of the boys were chasing the girls.

Probably about 50 in the herd, and it was an amazing site to see them all jockeying for position.
A little scuffle between the boys did break out, and they butted heads, although not the big, full charging head butt like I have seen on nature shows, but the large one let the others know to stay out of his way.

The chase continued for quite a while.

The males can weigh up to 315 lbs, or 143 Kg.

Big Horn Sheep at one time numbered in the millions, but overhunting, and disease brought over from European livestock made them endangered by 1900, but they have recovered today.

There are 3 sub species and this particular one is the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.

Thanks for viewing the Rocky Mountain Sheep with me.

LOL I see where you're coming from. Wild things in their element as opposed to wild things coming down to see what the humans left laying around for them to eat.
