A day at Australia Zoo!

5.jpg

Yesterday we went to Australia Zoo, located in Beerwah, Queensland.

It's a good two and a half hour drive from where we are on the Fraser Coast, and it's a major tourist destination at the best of times, so I thought that going on a school day and not during the holidays or a weekend would be best. Turns out it was! If it was this packed on a non-day, I'd hate to see it during the holidays.

No surprise, but I'm not a people person. 😆

The only other Australian zoo I've been to is Taronga Zoo in Sydney. And I'd just like to say right now that if you're a foreigner to Australia and you want to go visit one of our zoos... hands down I'd pick Taronga.

No disrespect to the Irwins, but Australia Zoo does not feel Australian. I feel like I waltzed straight into an American themepark that just so happened to have animals on theme.

I mean, if that's your jam, absolutely, go to the garish themepark zoo where they've literally remixed Steve Irwin's dialogue into rap music.

I'm not even joking.

I was horrified when I heard that. The man's dead. Sure, use his image, but still... allow him a modicum of respect.

We didn't get good seating at the Wildlife Warrior show, but here's a snap of Robert Irwin channeling his inner Steve. (Performing so nonchalantly even after listening to his dad's voice remixed into terrible music. Good grief. I'll never get over that.)

Anyway. It was a nice day yesterday. 😊

Due to the amount of people and being there with a hyperactive child, I didn't really get a chance to stop and take a lot of photos, but in this post I'm sharing the ones I managed to take that don't look like a hastily snapped snap as I got dragged past. 🤣

I hope you like them!

Until next time! 🐯🐍🐢

The koalas look cuddly. I hear they can be pretty aggressive too, but they seem very friendly.

Koalas can be feisty little creatures, haha! If they're cornered or threatened, that is, as they're sleeping most of the time. These ones are pretty accustomed to humans in their environment though, and a couple are friendly enough to be used in the stereotypical "people hugging a koala" photos.

Interesting! I didn't know Koalas slept a lot, but it makes sense if they need to conserve energy.

Loved them! Especially the geckos. And I'll definitely take your recommendation, next time I'm in Australia. ;)

some of the display images that friends provide are very satisfying and very good. I love how your technique takes these pictures.

The photos are neat. I guess Australia has one of the best zoos in the world, no? The adventure must be amazing.
I totally can relate to why you can't take many photos. I too have a little one. My time goes by answering his questions or running after him. lol

From what I've heard, there are a lot of better zoos around the world... but I'm not too sure what constitutes "better". 😅 Australian zoos are highly favourable towards animals though, and are very focused around animal conservation rather than human entertainment. In that regards we may have some of the best zoos.

That was very much my experience yesterday, haha! 😅

That's the definition of 'better' right there.

Have a good day :)

Oh wow I love your snaps and the animals of course! Haven’t been to Australia but I’ll take note of not going to Australia Zoo and just go to Taronga Zoo instead. 😅

You could always go to both! 😊 But if you had to pick one or the other, I'd recommend Taronga. Guess it really depends on where you'd plan to visit! Queensland or New South Wales! 😁

You took some excellent shots even if the experience wasn't nearly as excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Some great photos, I like the little water dragon lizard on the tree stump best. I have not been to Australia Zoo for 20 years, I suppose it's not cheap to get in either nowadays. We enjoyed Dubbo Zoo there was a lot to see and it takes a while to get around it all.

Cheers! That cute little water dragon was one of the first photos I took that day, I was really pleased with it! 😄

Australia Zoo is definitely not cheap these days. $160ish for 2 adults and one child. Luckily for us it was a Christmas gift from last year that's taken us the entire year to find time to redeem. At least all the money earnt there goes to the actual zoo and the animals though. 🙂

I've never been to Dubbo Zoo... only Taronga in Sydney and various wildlife parks here and there. Australia Zoo was a decent walk! We did about 13km of walking that day.
