I Didn't Realize I Was Winning

Honestly, I needed this reflection because just yesterday, I was confused and was also feeling unhappy because the year was coming to an end and it just seemed like I had not done a lot or achieved anything significant.

We as humans tend to not get satisfied with what we already have and we overthink what we can not control.

Well, today is for hyping ourselves and celebrating the small wins through-out the past 11 months.

Dusted my Final Exams and Finished School

After 7 years in the university because of the incessant strike, I finally finished my degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the university of Lagos, Nigeria.

We initially had a project defense; I spent two semesters working on my project and I am proud of myself because I was able to finish it and I successfully defended it. I was initially nervous about speaking to a panel but when I started talking, I naturally just became articulate and the panel loved my presentation.

Results

When my last result came out, I was hoping to get all A's but shit happens, lol. I am still proud of myself. Seeing myself get 80/100 in a course made me so happy.

I was a Speaker in an International Conference( Hosted by China )

At first, I didn't want to apply but I was encouraged by family and friends to do it. I used my project on Urban Inundation to apply for this and it was accepted by the IAHR Young Professional's congress.

My laptop even got bad days before the presentation and I won't lie, I panicked. I even wrote a post on Hive because I just needed to vent my problems. I was fortunate to have someone borrow me a laptop and I was able to successful present my paper.

It was a good experience. I was privileged to speak with professionals that have specialized in hydraulics engineering.

I upskilled

I could say 2025 was the year I made more projects and improved my skills. I created a game here on Hive called the Neoxian Puzzler.

I also made a lot of animated explainer videos on Hive this year. I got comments on how good my work was and it made me improve even more.

I Got a Job

2025 was a period when I was at my lowest and I was really broke. Even eating was a problem for me.

When I thought hope was lost and I might die of hunger, that was when a job came. I was tasked to create a web game called 2048-game. It was not a lot of money but I was able to feed myself for a month.

2025 taught me to always believe in God and there is always a way out of problems.

What I look forward to before the End of the year

The year isn't over and I believe good things could still come my way.

The first and important thing I look forward to is having a mentor. I have been self-mentoring for a long time now and I am exhausted. I need someone that could point me in the right direction and also constructively criticize me when actions and decisions aren't good enough.

A second thing is a new laptop. My laptop got bad and I am currently working on a borrowed one.

I can't do detty December anymore 😭 because I have to save whatever money I have so I can get a new one. I am using Garri to celebrate my own Christmas 😭😹. It looks tough but I believe it will get sorted out in the most unforeseen way.

The last thing is a combination of good health, happiness and finding good relationship, connection and friendship. ♥

Final Thoughts

God is really patient.

I complained a lot this year about how terrible I felt my life was. I neglected the good things good had done for me. Even waking up with good health is a privilege that we should be thankful for.

Life sometimes gets pretty confusing and next steps to take could be confusing but being thankful for the things you already have is the first step in practicing contentment and more good things tend to come your way.
