🎸 Srey-Yuu's Ukulele Struggles 🤷‍♀️To Be Or Not To Be? 🤔

Lately Srey-Yuu has been pondering whether or not the ukulele world is right for her, and perhaps even the stringed instrument universe.

🕵️ I Found You

It's not often Srey-Yuu takes her ukulele outdoors for a practice session, so I waited 30 minutes and went looking for her. Down by the river I found her singing, probably an embarrassing moment for a teenager, but that certainly wasn't my intention.

🤔 To Be Or Not To Be?

The look on her face in the above photo really captured her mood, but I am a bored dad who thought she would be glad I joined her. In the end I won Srey-Yuu over and we had a good long dad-daughter talk. At some point in our conversation she had a realization that the world of stringed instruments may not be right for her.

For Hive purposes, although she'd already stopped playing the ukulele, I asked her to hold and pretend she was strumming and watching the river. Whether real or not, the images are captured, so let's Srey-Yuu was jamming "Over The Rainbow" perfectly.

🏞️ The View Is Nice

The view isn't a bad one, and even without ukulele tunes it's quite easy to enjoy yourself down here. The air is always a little cooler down by the river, the view is hard to beat, and the sounds of the forest and rapids are a great natural symphony.

That's all I've got for today folks, just a short post, nothing special. I am trying to get back in the habit of posting 7 days a week, but it seems something happens each day to make this goal very hard to achieve. I guess that is the life of a busy day, to be continued....

Everyone has a gift of talent from above, maybe Ukelele is not meant for your daughter, but I really believed that if you will give time for something every day it will happen for sure it only needs time and for Srey-yuu I see her confidence and just keep on trying and trying you will got it someday! 😌

I think so too, she needs much more practice and time. I've told her several times that stringed instruments take many people years to learn the basics. In her case, only practicing a few hours each month, I'd say she's done pretty good. I told her either way I will support her, and if she chooses to sell her ukulele, it is her choice because she bought it with HBD earnings. I think she might like keyboards, but I don't want her to give up on the ukulele yet.

Oh wow, she bought it with hdb earnings that's great, it's her remembrance from Hive, yeah I would agree for her not to give up ukelele it's worth for her to learn ukelele and also it really takes time to practice, it should be a lifestyle just sharing hehe I also knew it from a skilled musician

I was a keyboardist going with Piano from a younger age. I started playing the guitar at my teenage for whatever rockstar reasons crashing in my mind. At this stage, I can see how string instruments can be "lonely". I can plug and do the melody, or strum to be a supporting role. May be, if she can start playing along with backtrack as a band, that will spark the fire again to pick up the interest of that ukulele?

I tinkered with keyboards much more than stringed instruments, but I think my mind was definitely better suited for keyboard. Let's see, I'll try and some some pre-recorded tunes of the stuff she's practicing and see if this reignites the ukulele passion. If things don't change, I guess it's her choice because it's her HIVE earnings that paid for it. She's reluctant to sell because she knows she won't get a price anywhere close to new.

This Ukulele performance looks so much fun, I have never played them before, but I love listening to all kinds of instrument.

Srey-Yuu has gotten much better than when she first started. It is very hard to learn though, so I understand when she gets frustrated.

I think I can relate to @Srey-Yuu I bought an ukulele, October last year, and one way or another I can't focus on really mastering the instrument, let alone pick it up daily, eventhough I started out taking online classes pretty actively in the first month or two. Also my two years of guitar practice from half a life time ago don't seem to make much a difference. Perhaps it's just not the right time?

The ukulele struggle is a real one. I never picked up stringed instruments because I know how much time it would take for me to not sound horrible. It doesn't come natural to me at all, but I think if I was one of those with a natural talent for it, I'd definitely be shreddin' some guitar right now. I've always liked keyboards, had one as a kid but never had a chance yet as an adult to re-explore it.

It sure takes time to 'rock at it'. I am a decent string walker but I just can't find the consistency to get more than average. Perhaps I am also too hard on myself but, as you know, I am working on dealing with deeply ingrained perfectionism that isn't serving me

Keyboards and synths are awesome! Would love to own one, some day...
