πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ I Have Many Sous Chefs πŸ₯Ÿ Family Momo Time & Srey-Yuu's Best Surprise From The USA πŸ‘š

I feel pretty fortunate to have up to three sous chefs at my beck and call, but only when the culinary task at hand is a playful one.

First Let Me Explain βœ‹

Β  Β  Β Every time I visit the USA I make sure to buy an inappropriate t-shirt for each of my lovely ladies. This is the first post of my back-in-Cambodia content, and the events in this post are only a few weeks behind real-time, just letting you all know. Anyhow, on this most recent trip I bought a shirt for Srey-Yuu in her favorite color that simply reads "asian." in lower case letters with a period. So, if you are you wondering why Srey-Yuu is wearing a strange shirt in this post, there's your reason.

Β  Β  Β After my first night at home I picked through my luggage and found my precious and hilarious shirt for Srey-Yuu, and I immediately laughed out loud. I found her sleeping, draped it on her and laughed so hard I couldn't take a clear picture. Well, to my surprise she wears her asian shirt everywhere, even while making momos in the home kitchen.

Β  Β  Β My friends in the USA talk about me "living in Asia" more than I actually hear the word Cambodia, we 'Mericans tend to oversimplify the world. For this reason I always remind her that she is basically the same as a Turkish or Japanese person. She's got a good sense of humor though, and of course I am an easy target for ridicule as a ginger, one of the strangest incarnations of the human form.

Oh Yeah, The Momos πŸ₯Ÿ

Β  Β  Β Got a little distracted there, but that's quite fine here on Hive where I'm not aiming for any mass appeal. Anyhow, Srey-Yuu and Pov became the momo makers after I prepared the dough balls and filling. This time I gave no guidance and let them work from memory, and although some of the momos got so large that they bordered on samosa territory, they reigned it back in to bite-size form near the end while I was doing the deep-frying.

Β  Β  Β Momos are the delicious dumplings of Nepal/Sikkim/Tibet/northern India by the way, still can't remember whether or not I've ever shared my recipe before on Hive. Recipes are easy enough to find online, but ultimately it's basically roti dough and your filling preferences change with time and tend to reflect what your family likes. I put fried diced vegan pΓ’tΓ© in our momos, something you won't find on any internet recipe, and nutritional yeast too for some umami action.

Yes, I can see that very skilled and serious chef, busy with making delicious things, ah! Something really fun is brewing. But it is true that when everyone in the family prepares something together, it is as tasty as it is done in a quick time.

I am very lucky to have help in the kitchen, and once they're helping me make momos, we get a good rhythm going as I deep-fry and they provide me with a constant supply of new dumplings.

Dood, I got no comment on the delicious momo, but I do have something to say about

asian ,

It is that simple, just like the Merican and an Asian born asian think. It's less simple for you because you're a convert. So, you're now Khmer speaking Merican, thinking how difficult to not burn rubbish and still be able to get rid of it 🀣

Sorry if it's not funny, but that's how I see it. No offense please 😘 you'll probably be thinking why this asian Dave don't get it, trust me I won't because I'm asian, . Give me that shirt, I will happily put it on as well 🀣

Haha, too true. Just like I am 'Merican, same thing from Canada to Argentina. I still can't believe how much joy and laughter a simple t-shirt has brought us, but most of all lucky to have a daughter with a good sense of humor.

I indeed am, the simple life is the one for me. I felt the impossibility of it all while in the USA.

It is my favorite fried snack, and even better when we take the time to make a special dipping sauce.

Family working together like this we always say, "many hands make light work", they look delicious!

If we cannot laugh at ourselves, who do we laugh at, it is such a great gift to have showing confidence of being proud of who you are...

!LUV to the family.
!LOLZ have a wonderful day!

I don't know about my ladies, but I have the most fun with them in the kitchen whipping up a meal together. A sense of a humor is a must though, especially when working around food. Thanks for stopping by.
