๐Ÿ›บ Commuting In The Cardamoms โ›ฐ๏ธ Blue Skies During The Rainy Season ๐ŸŒค๏ธ

Usually this time of the year it's nothing but rainy days here in the Cardamom Mountains, but today's commute to school was filled with blue skies.

Studying Requires Energy ๐Ÿ˜ด

ย  ย  ย Once a week I usually bring the neighbor's boy, Ah Boom, back home from school for various reasons, and he is asleep within 5 minutes every ride. He's pretty naughty because his parents don't spend much time teaching him how to be a good human, and quite often he'll have a fight with Monkey-B, sit as far as possible, then be sleeping on her shoulder a few minutes later.

ย  ย  ย You can't see it in the photos either, but I've been hauling back 400kgs of cement mix each time I return from Thmor Da, the small town where our daughters go to school. This adds an extra 30 minutes to the uphill drive back home, mostly done in 2nd gear.

Hold The Rag Doll ๐Ÿงธ

xdcvfbg.png

ย  ย  ย Ah Boom bounced all over the place like a rag doll despite us going very slow. Even asleep he can't stay still, so Monkey-B often braces him by the back of a neck like a puppet to keep him flopping around like a rag doll.

ย  ย  ย Now that the rain has been falling heavily for many weeks, the illegal but happily tolerated deforestation via arson has been replaced by green mountains and blue skies, quite a change from the brown and fires of a few months ago.

A Slice Of Paradise ๐Ÿฅน

fffffff.png

ย  ย  ย Life certainly isn't easy for us, but we feel thankful to own a small piece of land here in Cambodia before we've become too old to make use of it. We did have to shop far from any place most tourists or Cambodians will go, but we have no regrets despite all the hardships that've come along with this choice.

ย  ย  ย I tried to snap a pic of a particular road sign that always make smile, not sure if you will be able to see in the pic. It reads "END ROADWOR," no need for a K on the end, and no evidence from UV fading that there ever was a K.

Deer, Really? ๐ŸฆŒ

jhjhjj.png

ย  ย  ย I've never seen a deer here yet, but there is a sign that would make you feel you need to be on the lookout for a possible collision. I would be honored to have my tuk-tuk destroyed by a deer if it meant seeing one of what are likely 20 left in the whole country.

It's a pretty scenic commute, but I often forget how beautiful it is until I see tourists taking selfies along the road.

I haven't seen one yet, but I guess I can hope. I have seen plenty of cobras crossing the road though, and I'd be okay with never seeing one again.

She doesn't little man sleeping on her shoulder because he has no manners and is often rude. But she always gives in eventually, her kindness just can't be hidden.

No deer. All being eaten.

Did you disconnected the speed sensor/cable? Or you stopped to take photo each and everytime ๐Ÿค”

Haha, I had a feeling you would notice, the cable snapped recently, but because it's not crucial I haven't ordered a new one. I will probably wait until the next time we are in the capital and pick one up. Until then I could be traveling anywhere from 50 km/h to infinity and beyond.

Very beautiful area ...it is so lush green, Mother nature has many great things to offer to us and we have to be thankful to be experiencing them in our lifetime.

Although I don't enjoy spending two hours each day just driving the kids to school and back, the view is about as good as it gets despite it being something I've seen hundreds of times.

She has a high level of tolerance, especially with our little neighbor boy.

Maybe in one of your next rides you'll see a deer, soon!
Anyway, I like the idea that Ah Boom cannot resist sleeping in Monkey-B's shoulder :)

Haha, not sure if he can resist, but some internal spidey-sense seems to let he know if he slumps the other way he could fall out of the tuk-tuk.

It's been a long time since I was sleepy enough to be bobbing around in a moving vehicle. That boy needs a nap!

We have strange wildlife signs in Vietnam and Thailand as well and normally it is for various creatures that I don't think anyone has ever seen in those areas. I'm waiting for the warnings about species that have never existed here or anywhere else, like dragons.

Perhaps the kids wouldn't sleep so hard in the tuk-tuk if there was a "Naga Crossing" sign or something similar. If I was a little cheekier, I'd adorn the deer on the sign with some extra features, perhaps claws or a rocket launcher mounted on its back ๐Ÿคฃ. Most appropriate would be to have a sign with John Cena holding a deer in a headlock.
