๐Ÿšฏ 30 Guest Aftermath ๐Ÿคธ The Unwanted Depart ๐ŸคŒ

cdvfbgnh.png

Despite the guarantees of the 30 folks from Phnom Penh that forcefully made themselves our guests, they left the cabin a mess and didn't even pay in full.

๐Ÿ”ฎ I Should've Went With My Gut Instincts ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

ย  ย  ย In my previous post I mentioned that 30 guests came into our land and demanded to stay in a cabin designed for 2, and that could sleep 4 to 6 for short stays. The rich guy who seemed to be the trip leader guaranteed he'd make it worth my while, and to simply name my price. I told him repeatedly there is no price because I don't want damage done to the toilet or cabin. I told we charge $50 per night for 2 people, but 28+ extra is unheard of.

vfbgnh.png

ย  ย  ย When they left the guy gave me $50 even, not a penny extra. I feel stupid to have even offered our 4G modem to them after hearing they didn't have a SMART SIM, the only company with a signal around here. I put $5 of credit on my personal phone SIM, removed it from my phone and gave them our modem. I watched the SMART app and the $5 of credit was gone within 1 hour, an amount that usually lasts us 1 to 2 weeks. With 60 extra eyeballs on the property, it was hard to take any photos of them without being obvious, so apologies for the sub-par photography work within.

ย  ย  ย The cabin was left in a mess, and despite me telling them the tank would run out of water, they assured me it would be no problem because they have lots of gear and there is a river to use for bathing. Well, at 9pm I heard tents going up behind our bedroom, a cajรณn being beaten or something similar, and even singing and clapping. Srey-Yuu and I were here alone for the experience, and unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the one night per week we get to sort of get good sleep and also sleep in the following morning.

What A Hot Mess ๐Ÿšฏ

vfbgnhjm.png

ย  ย  ย Well, at 2am it rained, and of course the tents were pitched in the naturally occurring drainage path of the surface water on our land. They were flooded and made a lot of noise during the night as they relocated and claimed our building by the highway for themselves. The cabin sleepers drove their cars down the hill after agreeing not to do it because I mentioned we are trying to get grass going this rainy season. They also threw their trash and food scraps off of every imaginable corner of the house. Mud was everywhere, they washed their BBQ grill and meat/pork stuff in our house's personal dishwashing area, which enraged me to the point I said something to them, but they told me there was no meat and continued washing their dishes in our area with our sponges.

cdvf.png

ย  ย  ย I am a vegan because of my spirituality, and to have flesh in my house or in contact with anything on my property is something I don't really approve of, just like the Muslims are with pork products. So I'm out $5 of internet credit, plus three sponges and a nylon brush, all contaminated, and they even dumped their dirty dish water onto the area where we stack clean dishes. They could've simply dumped the water onto the ground next to the stand, but just turned it over onto an obviously clean area. Okay, this has turned into a rant, sorry folks, time to pressure wash some mud bombs.

Not an experience anyone would gladly accept, you will have to put out the word as to rules more clearly or not open the home to this type of offensive behaviour.

Yeah, definitely gonna have to lay out some ground rules so guests can have a similar expectation. The back to nature vibe is a better one to pursue because I don't care much to hear shouting all night long, would rather enjoy the white noise of the rapids with nature-loving guests.

Targeted marketing when we're officially open will help to lure these kinds of guests, fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž.

Good luck in the new venture, rules make life a lot easier with good down payment prior arrival.

Hi my friend,

Wow!

Due to having read earlier posts of yours about the type of people (camping) out there and their lack of manners ( a huge understatement ), I kind of saw it coming, although I hoped for a different scenario.

A shame you had to go through this kind of 'extreme' experience. Hope it helps you to set some kind of boundaries ( no matter how hard ), to prevent this from happening too often in the future.

๐Ÿฆ–hug!

Several times in a row we've had the same experience, time to just tell everyone the river is haunted, or I need to start dressing like a guru and act completely weird in an attempt to drive them away. I can't wait until we properly open for business because I aim to get guests almost exclusively from the internet via hiking, nature, backpacker groups, etc., and will just put a tiny sign outside to let them know they've arrived.

I'm sorry to hear that. I pray that you have the strength to overcome this and be blessed with good guests in the future to not only make up the purchase value, but to expand and be Hiverich for a long time

Haha, yes, to be so rich and this place so exclusive that you have to interviewed and get your membership to enjoy this place. Of course we'll need many upgrades before we can make such demands ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜†

Yes, the casino lures a very unsavory kind of tourist, and they often want to stay here for a night, and gamblers don't make good nature lovers.

Yes, it is my fault because I ultimately said "okay" even if I wasn't actually okay with the situation. Khmer people are just too aggressive and pushy when they want something, and I am just too nice.

Oh my gosh!!!! This is truly disgusting. How can humans do such horrible and disrespectful things to someone else. I hope this never happens to you again.

It will keep happening if I can't learn to how to get into character and be a less friendly version of myself. The only character I've ever had is the K-12 teacher version of myself, a personality I would dawn about an hour before heading to school. I should try and slip into character when I see 30 strangers enter our gate, it would serve me well.

Gosh, what are they, they didn't even know the word cleanliness to create such mess เฒฐ_เฒฐ. This kind of aftermath is the worst! Better set a much clearer rule now, for the future guest. Hope everything is settle now in with the aftermath.

It's all cleaned up now, a brutal lesson learned for the 10th or 15th time. I obviously need to change how I deal with Khmer guests, try to be more stern and strict with my rules and guidelines.

Why would a group of 50+ people think that $1 per person is an acceptable rate to pay? I'd be "pitching" their tent in the river with that bs they pulled.

I was pretty pissed off because we clearly agreed that $50 was for 4 people for the cabin and that the extra 26 people should be calculated an extra amount according to the guy because he himself said he was rich and had plenty of money. Well, karma is kind of a bitch, the city folk pitched their tents without permission in the middle of the night behind our bedroom, but little did they know they were on top of a surface water runoff plane I have constructed.

A little rain came in the middle of the night and tents were flooded. They relocated to another building without permission and stole my tire pressure gauge while there. I have all their license plate numbers, and they have been banned for life just like all the other multi-car Phnom Penh party convoys.
