What a scary start to your very first day on the job. I can imagine the shock, especially since you were already nervous about making sure you do a good job. I'm used to power outages in the U.S. when storms approach or lightning strikes the electrical hub. It takes anywhere from 12 - 24 hours for the crews to arrive and repair the entire neighborhood.
As far as the crowd in the supermarket, I can imagine the many scared people and chaos that ensued, especially when shoppers don't have accurate information as to why the blackout occurred. This reminds me of the blackout in New York several years ago.
Thanks for sharing your experience during the blackout. And hope you and your husband are having a calm day. Take care.

Hi @justclickindiva. It was really scary that day π Thank God I have good coworkers, they have helped me a lot these days.
Well, the power doesn't go out here when there are storms, even if the sky is falling, the power is always there strong.
I just hope another event like this never happens again!
Thanks for your visit and I hope you and your family are doing great! Hugs!π€
