The cucumber: fruit or vegetable?
Hi Hive Lovers
It's great to be home on the weekends and take advantage of them by walking around our own homes. This is a rare opportunity for me.
My target today is to breathe fresh air by walking to the suburbs. There are still many vacant lands and traditional farming areas belonging to local residents.
I found one of these farms planted with cucumbers. Even though it's not very wide, the entire area is really planted with these types of vines.
Even though you often find cucumbers, I'm sure you only find them on your dinner table, in traditional markets, in supermarkets, or wherever you can find them.
I'm also sure that only a few people can find it directly on the tree or on the cucumbers that are still in the planting area.
Even though I have found cucumber plants that are still on agricultural land several times, I have never taken photos of them and posted them somewhere.
Only since I joined #HiveCommunity, I started to frequently turn on the camera on my #SamsungA52 cellphone to take pictures of various things that I encounter, and I share all of them here with all of you.
Well, the cucumber plants that I encountered this morning were planted in dozens of soil beds and done in the traditional way. Each bed is made high and given a ditch to separate each bed.
Each of the ditches is filled with water and allowed to stagnate to serve as a source of water for all the cucumber plants planted there. The person who planted it said they don't need to water it anymore because all the soil in the bed will always be wet according to the characteristics of the cucumber plant.
Cucumber plants need a lot of water. I mean, the soil where they grow must always be wet. This is necessary because the characteristics of the roots of cucumber plants are young and weak roots. If for a while the soil is dry, then the cucumber plants will soon wither and die. So with a ditch that is stagnant with water, the soil bed will always be wet.
The cucumber plant is a type of vine, so the people here make the most of making vines for cucumber plants in the form of small logs that are stuck in each part of the bed, and the logs are connected with rope ties. It is on the ropes that the cucumber plant strands attach themselves and thrive.
You can see how this cucumber plant thrives until it reaches the height of an adult. A small part of the cucumber plants has started to bear fruit, and maybe in the coming days they can be harvested.
Most of the cucumber plants here were still in bloom, and the yellow flowers were scattered everywhere. They are very beautiful and contrast with the green color of the leaves.
I think the use of these wooden stakes further beautifies and enlarges the cucumbers that grow there, all hanging from their stalks, which are many times the size of the fruit.

It was very nice to have this weekend's experience; we have been learning about the process of the cucumbers coming to my table and to your table.
But there is one thing that still makes me curious:
Is cucumber a fruit or a vegetable?
Give your arguments for choosing one of them in the comments column.
It is nice garden and wonder me because your shot now more attractive by more angle. Amazing. Blessing
I learn a lot from the way you shoot, Bro.
Operating the camera on a cell phone is very difficult because my hands are shaking and I'm almost out of breath while holding my breath while taking pictures. !LOL
I aspire to buy a big camera like the one you already have. That would be more fun to shoot, right?
Thank you for everything.
Yups... That's good for you. Soon and I must call you justbephotographer. Hehe
Amazing pics. Thanks to share.
You're welcome, Miss @ferguis-ve.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and learned something new from the post.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your kind words here.
Have a nice day.
Looking at it, the soil is really fertilizes
I don't really understand soil nutrient content, although someone did explain it to me when I visited his garden.
But you are right, it looks very fertile there, and he actually uses more natural compost and adds a bit of chemical fertilizer to keep the pests away.
I actually explained that part in this review of my article. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your excellent observations.
People who say that a tomato is a fruit because it contains seeds have to also accept that pumpkins, cucumbers, and peppers are fruits as well. So I find the dictionary definition unsatisfying to my intuition of what a fruit should be but it may be the best one we have that is based on properties that are objective.
I really appreciate your cool analysis, @leprechaun.
It makes perfect sense to call cucumber a "fruit" based on its objective properties.
How about calling a cucumber (also supposedly a tomato, pumpkin, or bell pepper) based on the nature of its use as a vegetable?
For fruit salad typically the ingredients are:
If that were adopted to be fruit, people would object to making grapefruit, lemons, limes and kiwis no longer fruit. It is convenient to have a term that includes all plant parts that contain seeds.
Amazing, I had never seen a cucumber plant, cool.
Now you've seen it, and there they are, @leninernesto
I'm sure you've eaten it a lot, right?
Thanks for dropping by, and have a nice day.
A lot of them hehe, thanks to you.
