Asean Hive Challenge #105 How Do You Beat The Heat? My Entry

Hello everybody,

Since Summer Time here in the Philippines, yearly we feel this super heat surroundings. In my younger years, I just take a bath the hotness in my body just disappear, freshness all over once again. But, when my age was on my fifties I felt different, my head ached and I can't go out with out wearing sunglasses. My solution was to placed a wet face towel in my head and wrapped it. Just like on this picture.

I found out to be effective. My head did'nt ache anymore. So, that was my tradition every Summer time.

I do not care if many stared at me where ever I went. As long as my head do not ache. I experienced one summer I sat inside a jeepney an old muslim man asked me what tribe do I belong. Hahaha! he thought I was a muslim with my head cover. I told him, I do not belong to any tribe. I just wrapped my head because it ached with the summer heat...

Another solution, in 2014, I saw my new neighbor an old lady named Julie wore her crocheted dress, I love the design. I asked her if she is the one crocheting her dress, she answered "yes". She invited me to her house so she can show me here dozens of crocheted dress. So, one day I visited her. Oh! My! I saw here cabinet full of crochet dress she made. She advised me that while still young I must make crocheted tops or dress because during Senior yrs. to avoid stroke you must wear a comfortable crocheted dress or tops. I followed her suggestion, now I realized she was correct. Prayers for her soul the news came to me last year she passed away at the aged of 80. I wonder who kept her crocheted collections.

Thus, on this heat month I dug up from my closet the crocheted tops I made before.

Last Monday was the hottest day for me because while we travel inside the Van we can feel the heat even if the aircon was set to high. It was good I brought along the handy fan, so, while I was crocheting during traffic time the handy fan was in front of me, it helps, not so hot anymore.

We are all thankful that all around the house we have trees to protect us from the intense heat, especially the two big kerson tree in front, they are like umbrellas protecting the house. Inside the house we have three electric fans always on the whole day. We have aircon but hubby refrain us from using it to avoid high cost electric bill.

One way also I make low carb ice cream so hubby can eat also. Like the Moringa/Gumamela petals or Hibiscus flower I made into ice cream. He ate with gusto and me also.

Another way to beat the heat, me and hubby drink barley powder 3x a day with cold water and with ice for a refreshing drink.

About twice a day morning and in the afternoon when we are just at home I use the water hose, sprinkle water all around the ground mostly stones. We felt not so intense heat after I watered all around.

That are the ways as a Senior to beat the heat. We are concious about this situation because we heard from the news many seniors citizens suffered heat stroke.

Thank you for dropping by...

I am also thinking of crocheting another top but this time, it's a loose sort. The heat of the sun is feasting on my skin. I have to cover it as I am having skin allergies due to this sweltering heat. It's horrendous! 😱

I don't think I've ever tried barley powder before, I would be curious to know the flavor. My family now was a small portable fan too, and we love it. I love the wet towel idea too, if it works it works, even if your fellow Filipinos confuse you for Muslim, haha.
