Caterpillars or caterpillars in general are a stage in the life cycle of butterflies including in the order Lepidoptera. We all know that at this stage (Lepidoptera larvae) are plant eaters or herbivores. Note the leaves where the caterpillars perch are damaged because they are a food source for the caterpillars.
But caterpillars also play an important role in an ecosystem because caterpillars are a food source for other species. That's how life always occurs, a relationship between one living thing and another living thing and forms a symbiosis.
In the relationship between plant leaves and caterpillars, a parasitic symbiosis will form, where there is a species that benefits, namely the caterpillar, and there is a species that is harmed, namely the plant.
