I lived in the rural village of Vrindavana UP, in the 1990s for about 6 weeks in Jan/Feb and then returned for 3 months from April-June. I never wore any shoes for that time or sown cloth, as I was training as brahmachari at the Krishna mandir.

Yes for total of ten years in saffron through my twenties.
