A little slice of local life, feeding the birds, mushroom foraging and a cemetary in the woods
It's been a while since I've shared anything other than art or music so here's a post with something different. It's absolutely gorgeous where we live near the coast and fall is especially pretty, though I am a little disappointed that we didn't get a lot of colorful leaves this year. I think the hurricane messed with it somehow :/
Usually I share pics of the beach nearby because I can't get enough of it but today I'll spare you and some of my favorite simple moments.
Feeding the Chickadees
This one gets full credit to @vachemorte for building trust with the birds haha <3 We have loads of birds in our backyard and he was determined to get them to eat out of his hand. It took a lot of patience but now they will easily come perch on our hand and take some birdseed. If they see us and we don't have any they come flying around around beeping at us and sometimes they will even land on my phone or guitar and demand food. They have basically become pests but they are so cute we don't mind at all. Giving them some seeds is probably our favorite time of the day :) There's something special about having a connection with a tiny little bird like that 😊
Mushrooms / the edible and the unknown
We went out for a walk the other day and found quite a lot of mushrooms. I can only identify feild mushrooms as being safe to eat but I found another one that looks quite similar but it is a lighter color underneath and more of a honey color on top. I have used reverse image search and got an idea what it is but I am not 100% so alas they got left behind. If anyone has a lead let me know because there were a lot of these in the woods and I like free food!
Left: field mushroom / right ????
I also found these but I don't think they are edible but very cool looking. One is like a spiky furry creature and the orange on is like jelly 0_0 They were both growing on a huge cut tree stump.
Walk in the forest cemetery
We took a detour on our usual walk and stopped by this tiny and very old cemetery in the woods. The oldest tombstone there is from 1869!
It's overall so quiet and peaceful here, A+ spot to be buried IMO
Winter is coming and walk like this seem shortlived so we will enjoy it while we still can...

Do birds eat mushrooms?
This is my first time seeing that
I have no idea if they eat mushrooms, we give them birdseed which is sunflower and safflower seeds I think :)
I am very surprised to see that the birds at your place, which are very similar to the tits that fly around my house, are not afraid of humans. Last year I had a bird in my hands because it was knocked out flying through my bay window. I hurried to get him before the cat fell on him. It took him almost 30 minutes to recover and leave.
Wouldn’t your yellow mushroom be a Blob? Not being from the same country, the mushrooms differ but nevertheless remain very similar to ours. The first closely resembles a species called bluefoot. For others, it means nothing to me.
Is the last photo a lake? It's really a pretty place.
Thank you for sharing this nature day with us, I traveled and saw things that normally I would never have seen.
Chickadees are one of the more social birds but it took quite a while for them to come to our hand. My boyfriend would fill the bird feeder and stand next to it, then he started holding the bird feeder then made them come to his hand, lol its a process and there are some that are still too shy!
When I did a reverse image search the orange one said witches jelly, but edibility seemed iffy so I will leave it 🍄
Yes the last photo is a lake right across from a beach, it's got a little picnic park :)
Every winter a blackbird scratches under the leaves around my house my presence does not bother him but he did not want to come within 1 meter of me. I hope to do better this year. I will try to feed the titmouse in the same way, hoping that over time it will accept my presence.
In the link it refers to a post that I made two years ago with some photos

So nice, is it you who has a bird in your hand?
You seem to have the same climate as we have in southern Sweden. I get so tender in my heart when it comes to animals.
Yes that's my hand :)
Absolutely huge, it's having super confidence and the bird even more respect for you!
