Ploughing, Harrowing, Planting time for Egg Plants & Some General Agronomic Practices

Hello All!

It is another week for October #Gardenjournal as I bring you some new gardening ongoing in the field.

The season is welled timely to meet the good marketing. That is the most goal of every farmer. Especially when the farming is done to supply in commercial quanty or public domain and not only to feed the family. Even with those cultivated for subsistence bases, how much could the farmer consume. Only little and the rest could be sold for some money.

Egg plants dominance

Egg plant popularly known in my areas as garden eggs is one of the predominant vegetables raised in my area due to it resistance to many factors like adverse weather conditions and diseases. They are not easily damaged by other field pests that could result to total lost. But, the farmer should be keen of taking great care like spraying recommended chemicals to be able to get the higher yields and the quantity that he wants.

Preparation of the land, nursing, transplanting & other field work

*I have began my egg plant farming and this comes with agronomic practices to get bumper harvest. The initial stage was to prepare my land which is very well drained with high organic matter content. the raising of the seedlings was done simultaneously with the land preparation since time is valuable in this business. The seeds was collected from good foundation stock to ensure that the seeds are devoid of any diseases. After clearing the land, I ploughed the area to be cultivated and finally harrowed to make sure that the soil becomes well losed. *

Transplanting & other cultural practices

Basically, the seedlings are ready after 2 to 3 weeks of nursing. To get early maturity size and healthy stands, I applied foria fertilizer to increase the growth rate. Dumping off was well taking of not to kill the seedlings on the nursing stage. Other pest like insects which bore holes into the leaves were sprayed every 3 days.

After 3 Weeks the seedlings were matured enough to be transplanted to the prepared land. Labourers were acquired to help the transplanting to be done very fast. Mini ridges were done with hoes and in rows. There is a nearby river at the valley, so easy for me to tap with my pumping maching to irrigation the just planted seedlings as observed here. folia fertilizer in buckets were accompanied by the sowing of the seedlings.

Checking the grow rate, any observable changes after 3 days intervals

I have to really keep close eyes on the egg plants on the permanent filed. This is doing regular monitoring of any changes that may be observed from plant to plant. Checking the health status, disease infection or pests infestation on the field. The irrigation is never stopped till the vegetables grow to certain stage that they could withstand a short drought. upon my checks, there was no any strange attacks on the egg plants and the vegetables are growing in healthy conditions.

Well, I chose this season of planting even though the rainfall pattern has subside and there isn't any sure ways of bumper rain as we experienced in August and September. The main focus is to meet the xmass festivity when there is low or no rainfall and vegetables become very scarce. There would be high demand of vegetables like egg plants, tomatoes and onions. Since I have river at my side of planting, I would supplying water gradually to the vegetables during the lean season.
