[ENG-SPN] Ucero: Stone Watchtowers and Templar Secrets / Ucero: vigías de piedra y secretos templarios

Dominating the melancholic image of the village of Ucero, which every summer, well into August, miraculously awakens from its seclusion to join in the jubilation of the pilgrimage to San Bartolomé and the Virgen de la Salud, some enigmatic ruins invite the intrepid traveler on a dreamlike journey through a hypothetical universe of mysteries. These ruins, in essence, conceal more than what has seemingly come to light, hidden beneath the sun, which, far from bestowing its favor, always reserves the ace of its obstinate discretion.
Nor is its precise strategic location accidental, where, in addition to the town, it also overlooks the entrance to one of the most unique canyons in Old Castile, where the Knights Templar jealously guarded a good part of their encrypted secrets, in a hermitage located on land that, curiously, they bought or exchanged with another mysterious Order, that of Roncesvalles, whose mystical instincts had preceded them, who knows how many years: the Río Lobos Canyon.
But the most surprising thing, something few know despite the anticipation surrounding both the site and its formidable setting—not to mention the presence of that true medieval landmark, the Knights Templar—is that from these solitary ruins, relentlessly battered by the wind, came true artistic treasures that were kept for years in the Church of San Juan Bautista de Ucero. Of these, the most enigmatic and, at the same time, the most unorthodox mysteriously disappeared a few years ago, and no one seems to know its whereabouts. But that is part of another fascinating story, which we will discuss in another of our captivating journeys through mysterious Spain.
