[ENG-SPN] Tuñón: Templar Echoes in Ancient Stone / Tuñón: ecos templarios en piedra antigua

Founded in 891, also during the reign of Alfonso III, like the church of Santa María de Bendones, the small village of Tuñón holds, in this genuine heritage landmark, another of the enigmatic temples that characterize the excellence of pre-Romanesque art in Asturias.

We are in the municipality of Santo Adriano, and the church of the same name, although it suffered some unfortunate renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries, which truly transformed its original essence with unnecessary additions, holds secrets that we may never be able to uncover.

Among them, as well as the discovery of skeletons that exceeded 1.90 meters in height, quite uncommon for the time, we should add those other popular, though undocumented, traditions that link it to the Knights Templar. It is said that they owned a house in Tuñón, connected to this church by a tunnel, which, as in many other similar cases, has never been found.

Fundada en el año 891, también bajo el reinado de Alfonso III, como la iglesia de Santa María de Bendones, el pequeño pueblo de Tuñón nos reserva, en este genuino hito patrimonial, otro de los templos arcanos que caracterizan la excelencia del arte prerrománico en Asturias.

Nos encontramos en el Concejo de Santo Adriano y la iglesia, de igual nombre, si bien sufrió algunas desafortunadas reformas en los siglos XVII y XVIII, que, realmente, transformaron su esencia primitiva con añadidos que no necesitaba, guarda secretos que posiblemente nunca seamos capaces de recuperar.

Entre ellos, así como el descubrimiento de esqueletos que superaban el metro noventa, estatura bastante infrecuente para la época, por cierto, habría que añadir esas otras tradiciones populares, si bien no documentadas, que la relacionan con los caballeros templarios. Se cuenta, que estos tenían una casa en Tuñón, conectada a esta iglesia por un túnel, que, como en muchos otros casos similares, nunca se ha encontrado.
