[ENG-SPN] The Picturesque Numantian Highlands / Las pintorescas Tierras Altas numantinas

One of the harshest, yet at the same time most fascinating and adventurous landscapes of that immortal Numantian Soria are those, comparatively, Highlands, which have fallen into disrepair over time, but which, in medieval times, formed population centers of unshakeable solidity, as well as the settlement of a nobility whose most powerful weapon was something worth its weight in gold since ancient times: livestock.

In this same land, with picturesque villages and remote from the capital by countless mountains, hills, and ravines, not only did a significant sheep farming flourish, at the edge of a land that hardly allowed itself to be seduced by the amorous advances of a plow, which was not always a welcome lover, but also witnessed the establishment of mysterious military orders, which, in one way or another, left their mark on it. One of the most important and, at the same time, most mysterious, due to its apparent heterodoxy and mysticism, was the Order of the Temple.

Before its final dissolution in the 14th century, sufficient traces of its presence still remain in places like Oncala and San Pedro Manrique, so that the adventurous traveler, contemplating them, not without some surprise, can enrich his experience with interesting speculations. And, as the saying goes: whoever had, retained.

Uno de los paisajes más duros, pero, a la vez, más fascinantes y promiscuos a la aventura, de esa inmortal Soria numantina, son esas, comparativamente, Highlands o Tierras Altas, con el tiempo venidas a menos, pero que, en época medieval formaron núcleos poblacionales de una solidez inquebrantable, así como el asentamiento de una nobleza, cuya arma más poderosa, era algo, que, desde la más remota Antigüedad, valía su peso en oro: el ganado.

En esta misma tierra, de pueblecitos pintorescos y alejados de la capital por innumerables sierras, montes y quebradas, no sólo floreció una importante ganadería ovina, a la vera de una tierra que apenas se dejaba seducir por los intentos amorosos de un arado, que no siempre era un amante bienvenido, sino, que, además, vivió el asentamiento de misteriosas órdenes militares, que, de una u otra manera, dejaron en ella su huella.

Una de las más importantes y a la vez, más misteriosas, por su aparente heterodoxia y misticismo, fue la Orden del Temple, de cuya presencia, antes de ser definitivamente disuelta en el siglo XIV, todavía quedan, en lugares como Oncala y San Pedro Manrique, huellas suficientes, como para que el viajero aventurero, contemplándolas, no sin cierta sorpresa, enriquezca su experiencia con interesantes elucubraciones. Y es, que, como bien dice el refrán: quien tuvo, retuvo.
