[ENG-SPN] The Invisible Border / La frontera invisible

Located in a valley rich in mythological traditions, Cayón, where ancestral customs related to Anjanas, Ojáncanos, Guajonas, and vampire witches still thrive, and where the famous All Souls' Night gives way to ancestral celebrations known in this area as Samuin Nights, where the metaphorical Veil of Isis allows two ambivalent worlds—the ordinary and the supernatural—to collide for a few hours, like the fictional worlds in collision in Immanuel Velikovsky's novels, the Romanesque Church of the Assumption is another example of architecture, akin to medieval narratives, that always invites speculation.

Despite their apparent roughness and the relentless ally of time—erosion—one can still discern, in their resilient sculpture, a good portion of the anthropological beliefs that shaped the daily life of the medieval mindset, forever teetering on that imaginary tightrope of the tightrope walker, demarcating two antagonistic worlds: order—or at least, the established order—and the world of debauchery or chaos.

It is not difficult, therefore, to discover within them the coexistence of fantastical beings, mythological hybrids, which, even when associated with the world of sin, invited not only entry through the door of what was considered right, but also the abandonment of practices deemed pagan, in territories where past cultures, such as the Celtic, left a mark that was very difficult to erase for centuries.

Situada en un valle rico en tradiciones mitológicas, Cayón, en cuyo entorno todavía perviven ancestrales tradiciones relacionadas con Anjanas, Ojáncanos, Guajonas o brujas vampiras y donde la famosa noche de Difuntos dan pasa a celebraciones ancestrales, que, por esta zona, llevan el céltico nombre de noches de Samuín, donde ese metafórico Velo de Isis otorga la posibilidad de que dos mundos ambivalentes, el ordinario y el sobrenatural, entrechoquen por unas horas, como los ficticios mundos en colisión de Inmanuel Velikovsky, la iglesia románica de la Asunción es otra de esas arquitecturas, afines al relato medieval, que invita siempre a la especulación.

A pesar de su aparente tosquedad y de esa sobresaliente aliada del paso del tiempo, que es siempre la erosión, todavía se puede apreciar, en su resiliente escultura, buena parte de esas creencias antropológicas que constituían el día a día de una mentalidad, la medieval, siempre balanceándose en esa imaginaria cuerda floja del funambulista que delimita dos mundos antagónicos: el orden -o al menos, el del orden establecido- y el del libertinaje o del caos.

No es difícil, por lo tanto, descubrir en ellas la coexistencia de seres fantásticos, híbridos mitológicos, que, aun asociados al mundo del pecado invitaban, no sólo a entrar por la puerta de lo considerado correcto, sino también al abandono de prácticas consideradas como paganas, en territorios donde las culturas pretéritas, como la celta, dejaron durante siglos una huella muy difícil de borrar.
