[ENG-SPN] The Gothic Soul of Ávila / El Alma Gótica de Ávila

Fantasy has a name, and it's called the Cathedral. Therefore, without leaving Ávila's glorious Old Town, eternally protected by its solid medieval walls, we are delighted to invite you on a brief, though hopefully interesting, stroll through the magnificent interior of a cathedral that, like Oviedo's, is also dedicated to the figure of the Savior.

This cathedral is undoubtedly special, as it was the first Gothic cathedral built in Spain, and a significant model of resilience, mastery, and enduring durability. Its construction, begun in 1170, took more than three centuries to complete, culminating in its current well-deserved status as an indisputable World Heritage Site.

A cathedral that dazzles with the elegance of its vaults, its slender flying buttresses, its magnificent chapels, and the soft, pleasant light that filters through its stained-glass windows. Far from being harsh, this light seduces the eye, captivating it with a vibrant palette that highlights the iron or granite nature of its tons of taut, stone blocks. This not only makes it unique, but also, due to its color, has led to its ancestral name, ‘the bleeding cathedral’.

La fantasía tiene nombre y se llama Catedral. Por eso, sin abandonar ese glorioso Casco Antiguo de Ávila, eternamente protegido por sus sólidas murallas medievales, nos resulta fascinante invitarles a un breve, aunque esperamos que interesante paseo por los maravillosos interiores de una catedral, que, como la de Oviedo, también está dedicada a la figura del Salvador.

Una catedral, sin duda alguna especial, puesto que fue la primera catedral gótica que se levantó en España, además de ser un significativo modelo de resiliencia, maestría y perdurabilidad, pues no en vano se tardaron más de tres siglos en su construcción, comenzada en el año 1170, hasta alcanzar la meritoria clasificación que tiene en la actualidad: Patrimonio indiscutible de la humanidad.

Una catedral que deslumbra por la elegancia de sus bóvedas, de sus estilizados arbotantes, de sus magníficas capillas, por la luz tamizada y agradable que se filtra a través de sus vidrieras y que lejos de herir, seduce las retinas, cautivando la visión con un colorido donde destaca la naturaleza ferrosa o berroqueña de sus toneladas de sillares en tensión, que no sólo la hacen única, sino que, además, por el color, induce a que ancestralmente se la conozca también como ‘la catedral sangrante’.
