[ENG-SPN] The Beauty and the Beast of Time: The Church of Duratón and the Mathematical Secret of Romanesque Art / La Belleza y la Bestia del Tiempo: La Iglesia de Duratón y el Secreto Matemático del Románico

Besides being a true example of the masterful and eminently Romanesque architecture that once characterized the formidable stonemasons' workshops located throughout the stunning area surrounding Sepúlveda, the Church of the Assumption in Duraton continues to be, also, that metaphorical Beauty respected by a Beast called Time.

Its elegance, in contrast to the balance of its harmonious design, makes the whole a monument to mastery, leading one to think of that era, considered obscure by many historians, as also glorifying mathematics, which, though considered rudimentary, was nevertheless precise enough to make perfection a model to follow.

Geometric models, which also drew upon other knowledge, such as astronomy, while not distinguishing itself from traditional astrology, combined, on a plane, those mysterious stellar movements that allowed, even if only symbolically, a very special union between heaven and earth. This detail was particularly noticeable during the solstices, and its precision, in many cases, could also be considered a precursor to special effects capable of leaving a lasting impression on the soul.

Además de ser un auténtico referente de esa arquitectura magistral y eminentemente románica que caracterizó, en tiempos, a los formidables talleres de canteros instalados a lo largo y ancho del sorprendente entorno de Sepúlveda, la iglesia de la Asunción, en Duratón, continúa siendo, también, esa metafórica Bella respetada por una Bestia llamada Tiempo.

Su elegancia, en contraste con el equilibrio de su armónico diseño, hacen del conjunto un monumento a la maestría, que inducen a pensar, de ese tiempo, considerado oscuro por muchos historiadores, como la glorificación, también, de unas matemáticas, que, tenidas por rudimentarias, eran, sin embargo, lo suficientemente precisas, como para hacer de la perfección un modelo a seguir.

Modelos geométricos, que, además, se valían de otros conocimientos, como una astronomía, que, aún sin llegar a destacarse de la tradicional astrología, combinaba, sobre el plano, esos misteriosos movimientos estelares que permitían, siquiera de una manera simbólica, una unión muy especial entre el cielo y la tierra, detalle que se apreciaba, especialmente, durante los solsticios y cuya precisión, en muchos casos, podría ser considerada, también, como precursora de unos efectos especiales, capaces de dejar huella en el espíritu.
