In the Alto Campoo region, just a few kilometers from the stately town of Reinosa and not far from the winding paths leading to Valderredible, where any traveler, upon seeing its hermitages and primitive cave churches, soon experiences the curious sensation of having entered a territory where time has definitively stood still, a small village called Cervatos holds a heritage treasure that, even after centuries, is still capable of surprising a world increasingly astonished—and here the redundancy is fitting—by the allure of the Digital Age and the advances of that opiate of the masses that Artificial Intelligence is becoming: the church of the former Collegiate Church of San Pedro.

If the Tantric mystery, based on achieving enlightenment through sex, is a constant in the fabulous Eastern temples, especially in that school of restless adventurers that, even in our uncertain times, continues to be India, the erotic sculpture of San Pedro de Cervatos could be considered, at least metaphorically and comparatively, as proof that, in the West, the ancient Eros and the hidden fertility cults also had a place, even being displayed without any shame in temples whose message, a priori, was always directed against lust and promiscuity.

Perhaps that's why this magnificent Church of San Pedro is so special, and also because of the detail—of course, without any historical documentation to support it—that some sources, undoubtedly captivated by the magnificent crosses pattée—among other details—that form the keystone points of its masterful vaults, have attempted to see, in those dark times surrounding the 12th and 13th centuries, the elusive shadow of those legendary knights who, beginning their arduous journey in the deserts of the Holy Land, soon astonished a convulsed Europe, which was beginning to glimpse the light after the dark period that led to the fall of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the High Middle Ages: the Templars.

En el Alto Campoo, a escasos kilómetros de la señorial Reinosa y no muy lejos, tampoco, de los intrincados caminos que llevan a la zona de Valderredible, en la que cualquier viajero, al ver sus eremitorios y sus primitivas iglesias rupestres, no tarda en experimentar la curiosa sensación de que ha entrado en un territorio donde el tiempo, definitivamente, se ha detenido, un pequeño pueblo, de nombre Cervatos, guarda un tesoro patrimonial, que todavía, al cabo de los siglos, es capaz de sorprender incluso a un mundo cada día más sorprendido –y aquí sí vale la redundancia- por la fascinación de la Era Digital y los avances de ese opio para el pueblo en el que se está convirtiendo la Inteligencia Artificial: la iglesia de la antigua Colegiata de San Pedro.

Si el misterio tántrico, basado en el alcance de la iluminación mediante el sexo, es una constante en los fabulosos templos orientales, sobre todo, en esa escuela de inquietos aventureros, que, incluso en nuestros inciertos días continúa siendo la India, la escultura erótica de San Pedro de Cervatos podría considerarse, al menos de un modo metafórico y comparativo, como la constatación de que, en Occidente, el viejo Eros y los soterrados cultos a la fertilidad tenían cabida también, incluso exhibiéndose sin ningún pudor en unos templos, cuyo mensaje, a priori, iba siempre encaminado contra la lujuria y la promiscuidad.

Posiblemente por eso, esta magnífica iglesia de San Pedro sea especial y también, por el detalle, por supuesto, sin documentación histórica alguna que lo avale, de que algunas fuentes, sin duda entusiasmadas por las magníficas cruces patadas –entre otros detalles- que conforman los puntos de clave de sus magistrales bóvedas, hayan pretendido ver, en esos oscuros tiempos afines a los siglos XII y XIII, la sombra escurridiza de aquellos legendarios caballeros, que, comenzando su tortuosa singladura vital en los desiertos de Tierra Santa, no tardaron en sorprender a una Europa convulsionada, que comenzaba a vislumbrar la luz después del oscuro periodo que dio lugar a la caída del Imperio Romano y el comienzo de la Alta Edad Media: los templarios.
