[ENG-SPN] Pieros and the Templar Footprints: Resilience Among Ashes and Vineyards / Pieros y las Huellas Templarias: Resiliencia entre Cenizas y Viñedos

The Bierzo region of León, the same region that, unfortunately, burned on all sides last summer, reducing to ashes not only spectacular landscapes but also ancestral villages, many of them linked to the Saint James Way and in some cases, like Compludo, with its medieval forge, which is, of course, a treasure to be appreciated and valued, still preserves, despite time and circumstances, traces of the presence, from the 12th century to the beginning of the 14th century, when the order was suppressed and accused of heresy, of knights, the Templars, who not only knew how to fight but also how to harness the gifts of the land.

In this respect, the small town of Pieros, despite everything, still preserves, perhaps even the same vineyards so painstakingly tended by the Knights Templar, as well as a small hermitage. Despite the modifications that have altered its original structure over the centuries, the hermitage is striking for its simplicity, forming a valuable part of the
Romanesque and rural architecture. Lacking the excessive ornamentation of many others, it captivates with its unique charm.

From this hermitage, located just a few dozen meters from the town, the view is romantic. It guards vineyards that, despite the passage of centuries and the hands that currently prune and harvest them, still stand as a testament to the town's origins and the unique circumstances of its quiet history, a testament to the passage of time and the hands that tend them today. These vineyards, along with the ever-declining agriculture and livestock farming, stubbornly and resiliently recall the town's history.

El Bierzo leonés, ese mismo, que, desgraciadamente durante el pasado verano ardió por los cuatro costados, quedando reducidos a cenizas, no sólo entornos espectaculares, sino también pueblos ancestrales, muchos de ellos relacionados con el Camino de Santiago y en algunos casos, como Compludo, con su herrería medieval, que es, desde luego, todo un tesoro a apreciar y a valorar, conserva todavía, no obstante el tiempo y las circunstancias, huellas de la presencia, en tiempos que se extendieron desde el siglo XII a comienzos del siglo XIV, cuando la orden fue suprimida y acusada de herejía, de unos caballeros, los templarios, que no sólo sabían combatir, sino aprovechar también los dones de la tierra.

En ese sentido, la pequeña localidad de Pieros, a pesar de todo, todavía conserva, quién sabe si los mismos viñedos que tan laboriosamente cuidaban los hermanos fratres del Temple, así como una pequeña ermita, que, independientemente de todas las modificaciones que durante siglos fueron alterando su primitiva planta original, llama la atención por su sencillez, formando una parte muy valorable de esa arquitectura románica y rural, que sin tener el exceso de ornamentación de otras muchas, cautiva por su peculiar encanto.

Romántica perspectiva, desde ella, alejada apenas unas docenas de metros del pueblo y custodiando, sin importar el transcurso de los siglos y las manos que actualmente se encarguen de su poda y recolección, unos viñedos, que, junto con la agricultura y la ganadería, cada vez venida a menos, recuerdan todavía, con obstinada resiliencia, sus orígenes y las circunstancias tan especiales que se localizan en su silenciosa historia.
