[ENG-SPN] Calatañazor: A Cultural Heritage Site / Calatañazor: un Patrimonio Cultural

I have always maintained that the true wealth of a country lies in the close relationship between its towns and its people. This detail, when elevated to the cultural level, constitutes, of course, an extraordinary heritage that we should never lose, since it is part of the best and most valuable thing we have: our true essence.

This heritage, moreover, is especially valued in those places, such as this beautiful Castilian-Leonese town, which goes by the romantic name of Calatañazor, which invites you to take an intense stroll along the unfathomable paths of history, preserving much of its ancient medieval appearance and recalling the epic and important events that occurred there in the past.

An appearance that, of course, went unnoticed by the organizers of that ambitious Marshall Plan intended to revive the withered economies of a Europe devastated by deadly conflicts, but not by the far-sighted Hollywood producers, who, led by Orson Welles, among others, considered it the ideal setting for filming one of the greatest cinematic classics of all time: 'Chimes at Midnight'.

Siempre he defendido que la verdadera riqueza de un país reside en esa estrecha relación que existe entre sus pueblos y sus gentes, detalle, que, elevado al ámbito cultural, constituye, desde luego, un extraordinario patrimonio que nunca deberíamos dejar perder, puesto que forma parte de lo mejor y más valioso que tenemos: nuestra verdadera esencia.

Este patrimonio, por otra parte, se revaloriza, sobre todo, en aquellos lugares, que, como puede ser el caso de este precioso pueblo castellano-leonés, que responde al romántico nombre de Calatañazor, invita a un intenso paseo por los insondables senderos de la Historia, conservando buena parte de su antigua apariencia medieval y recordando los épicos e importantes acontecimientos que en él ocurrieron en el pasado.

Apariencia, que, desde luego, si pasó desapercibida para los organizadores de aquel ambicioso Plan Marshall que pretendía reactivar las marchitas economías de una Europa devastada por mortíferas contiendas, no lo hizo, sin embargo, para los avizores productores de Hollywood, quienes, de la mano de Orson Welles, entre otros, lo consideraron como el escenario ideal para rodar uno de los grandes clásicos del Cine de todos los tiempos: ‘Campanadas a medianoche’.
