[ENG-SPN] Between Stones and Symbols: The Architectural Charm of Lasarte / Entre Piedras y Símbolos: El Encanto Arquitectónico de Lasarte

It could be said that, as a result of modern urban planning and the growth of large cities such as Vitoria-Gasteiz, Lasarte has ceased to be a small town and has become just another neighborhood in the urban sprawl. It also boasts, as a major heritage treasure, the old Collegiate Church dedicated to the disciple of Saint Saturium, the patron saint of Soria: Saint Prudence of Armentia.

On the other hand, the strange yet captivating design of the parish church of Lasarte, where, as in Añúa, the Romanesque style seems to fade away to give way to a revolutionary style of the time, as Gothic undoubtedly was, contains some foreign pieces, which, like the magnificent windows, indicate the possibility that they may have originally belonged to the neighboring, much-altered Collegiate Church.

Its hexagonal apse is also spectacular, featuring, as a curious detail, a small oculus-shaped window in which one can see that ancient symbol of health, also known in some circles as the "Druid's foot," the five-pointed star. At certain times of the day, with the sun rising over the horizon, it can surely become part of the "special effects" of the period and be reflected, to the amazement of the faithful, in the floor of the nave.

De Lasarte, se podría decir, que, a consecuencia de los modernos planes de urbanismo y el crecimiento de las grandes ciudades, como Vitoria Gasteiz, ha dejado de ser un pequeño pueblo, para convertirse en otro barrio más de la expansión urbanita, que, además, tiene, como tesoro patrimonial de primera magnitud, la vieja Colegiata dedicada al que fuera discípulo de San Saturio, el Santo Patrón de Soria: San Prudencio de Armentia.

Por otra parte, el extraño y a la vez, cautivador diseño de la iglesia parroquial de Lasarte, donde, como en Añúa, el románico parece desvanecerse para dar cumplido paso a un estilo revolucionario en la época, como, sin duda alguna, lo fue el gótico, contiene algunas piezas foráneas, que, como los magníficos ventanales, indican la posibilidad de que, en un principio, pudieran haber pertenecido a la vecina y muy modificada Colegiata.

Espectacular, además, es su ábside hexagonal, que luce, como detalle curioso, una pequeña ventana, en forma de óculo, en la que se aprecia ese antiguo símbolo de la salud, también llamado, en algunos ámbitos, ‘pie de druida’, la estrella de cinco puntas, que, a buen seguro, a ciertas horas del día, con el sol ascendiendo por la línea del horizonte, puede convertirse en parte de ‘los efectos especiales’ de la época y reflejarse, para asombro de los fieles, en el pavimento de la nave.
