[ENG-SPN] A medieval village called Maderuelo / Un pueblo medieval llamado Maderuelo

There was a time when this unique Castilian village, which still preserves much of its medieval charm intact, belonged to Soria. It is now part of the Villa y Tierra of a community, that of Segovia, which also adds to its already rich historical, artistic, and cultural heritage: Maderuelo.

Located just eight kilometers from another enclave, not only related to that religious-military order that has not ceased to attract interest since its dissolution in the 14th century, the Order of the Temple, but also with one of the darkest episodes contained in that jewel of medieval Spanish literature, such as the Song of My Cid and the episode of the so-called Corpes Affront, where the daughters of the renowned warrior in exile, El Cid Campeador, were outraged by their husbands, the Counts of Carrión, Castillejo de Robledo, in Maderuelo, in addition to the emblematic hermitage of the Vera Cruz, whose extraordinary Romanesque paintings were moved to the Prado Museum in Madrid, so as not to be flooded by the waters of the Linares reservoir, it also offers the possibility of delighting in old enigmas, of which little or nothing is known.

One of them, apart from the hidden symbolism in certain works of art, such as the Last Supper, made by the artist Gabriel de Sosa in the 16th century 16th century, is the presence, in the main church, of the incorrupt body of a mysterious maiden. It is suspected, given the original luxury of her clothing, that she may have belonged to the nobility and may even have been a contemporary of Don Álvaro de Luna, who was said to have hidden a fabulous treasure in the town before falling into disgrace, which, of course, no one has yet been able to discover.

Hubo un tiempo, en el que este singular pueblo castellano, que todavía conserva incólume buena parte de su antiguo atractivo medieval, perteneció a Soria, siendo ahora parte de la Villa y Tierra de una comunidad, la de Segovia, a la que viene a engrosar, además, su ya de por sí rico patrimonio histórico, artístico y cultural: Maderuelo.

Situado a tan sólo ocho kilómetros de otro enclave, no sólo relacionado con esa orden religioso-militar que no ha dejado de acaparar interés desde su disolución en el siglo XIV, la Orden del Temple, sino también con uno de los más oscuros episodios contenidos en esa joya de la literatura medieval española, como es el Cantar de Mío Cid y el episodio de la denominada Afrenta de Corpes, donde las hijas del reconocido guerrero en el exilio, el Cid Campeador, fueron ultrajadas por sus esposos, los condes de Carrión, Castillejo de Robledo, en Maderuelo, además de la emblemática ermita de la Vera Cruz, cuyas extraordinarias pinturas románicas fueron trasladadas al Museo del Prado de Madrid, para no ser anegadas por las aguas del pantano de Linares, ofrece también la posibilidad de deleitarse con viejos enigmas, de los que poco o nada se sabe,

Uno de ellos, aparte del simbolismo oculto en ciertas obras de Arte, como la Santa Cena, realizada por el artista Gabriel de Sosa en el siglo XVI, es la presencia, en la iglesia principal, del cuerpo incorrupto de una misteriosa doncella, de la que se sospecha, a tenor del lujo original de la ropa, que pudo pertenecer a la nobleza y hasta es posible que fuera contemporánea de Don Álvaro de Luna, de quien se decía que antes de caer en desgracia, había ocultado un fabuloso tesoro en el pueblo, que, por supuesto, nadie ha sido todavía capaz de descubrir.
