[ENG-SPN] A Disaster in Trasmiera / Un desastre en la Trasmiera

P1160730_edited.jpg

Seeing the inconsequential renovations that, over different periods, altered the minute sacred character of this beautiful 12th-century temple, the traveler, once his sensitivity has been wounded, cannot help but wonder if, perhaps, at some dark moment in history, close, however, to modern times—and I swear, I'm not trying to plagiarize Chaplin—which had already been altering everything with the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution, the formidable stonemasonry schools of Trasmiera also lost their way.

P1160720_edited.jpg

Indeed: contemplating this Meccano of different periods and styles, assembled without cause or knowledge, which, moreover, the traveler thinks, would have been an extraordinary source of inspiration to seduce the mind of the remarkable Mary Shelley, inducing her to the idea of her modern Prometheus—allow me to introduce you to the famous Frankenstein monster—anything, even any nonsense, far from surprising, may now be possible, including those doubts of thinking, as some authors suppose, that the Templars, restless inhabitants of the Places of Power and also of the power of the good shepherds, could also haunt this place and even raise it, based on trips by cart and oxen to the nearby quarries of Campoo.

P1160654_edited.jpg

Be that as it may, at least the traveler can take comfort—I swear by the spirit, what else can there be—converted into an interpretation center for the Romanesque architecture of Cantabria, it still contains enough original elements—others, however, are mere copies—from the passage of those ancient brotherhoods, well-versed in the use of the chisel, the chisel, and the arithmetic calculation that made Trasmiera so famous. Their message, fortunately, has not been completely erased by time, being evoked in that sculpture, which, like hieroglyphics, has more than one interpretation, the ancient archetypes of a world, the medieval one, where faith, if not enough to move mountains, was nevertheless powerful enough to undermine and shape them.

P1160625_edited.jpg

Beautiful temple with impressive architectural designs. Though ancient you can tell it was a nice building many years ago when it was built. The sculptures are impressive too.

Despite the renovations and styles layered over centuries, it’s comforting to know that the spirit of those master stonemasons, the brotherhoods who once carved with such precision and devotion, still resonates through the remaining sculptures and architectural details.

True. In fact, part of that spirit is in the way the author shaped the architecture, which also defined him. Visiting this type of architecture in the area shows us some of the places where these stonemasons' guilds worked and how their work took them ever further afield, leaving some borders behind to embark on the adventure of building on others. Thank you for your comment, and best regards.

Absolutely! The architecture is not just a physical creation but a reflection of the spirit and identity of its creator. Best regards to you as well!
