My little Friday shopping
This is my first #marketfriday shopping for the year. I haven't gone shopping for a month now because around November last year, I stocked the house knowing fully well that during the festive season, things will be quite expensive. This has been a usual routine where people deliberately hike the prices of things during the festive season. This is so because the sellers know very well that the festive season is a period where people somehow indulge in panic buying. So it is an avenue to make more sales and more profit. The rationale behind this wickedness form the sellers is what I haven't been able to fathom for years.
Well I stocked up earlier and I have been eating from them since then. But unfortunately I ran out of some stew ingredients. And decided to stroll into a street market. The market wasn't really filled up as people who travelled to their villages are yet to return to the city. Most of reasons can be tied to the outrageous price of transportation these days which is linked to the unavailability of PMS. We are really struggling with that and I hope and pray this ends soon.
I stepped out to buy some fresh tomatoes which isn't expensive. This is the season for fresh tomatoes here in my country. You can buy much for less price. It was portioned for #200 which is approximately $0.44. I bought #1000 which is approximately $2.21. Very cheap if you ask me. Unlike last year September/October where you won't even see for that amount. Now the sellers are begging you to come and buy tomatoes at a giveaway price.
Next stop is for my fresh peppers. I love pepper mix in stew because each of the species comes with its own taste. The red bells, tatashe and shombo species are very spicy. The tatashe is just to make the stew red and I love using it to make my jellof rice too. I bought each for #100 naira which is approximately $0.22. I didn't buy much because of my little girl. She loves to eat rice and since I know that's what she loves, I have cut down on how much I spice my food. She is grown now and eats adult food. So I bought just four portions which is #400( approximately $0.88.
Lastly, I stopped to get my onions. I am not a fan of onions actually but I love to have them all chopped into my noodles. Somehow I get this tasty feeling when I eat onions in my noodles. I love to cut them up in chunks and boil them first. I just love seeing them in my noodles. I Hadley use onions in my meals except of course when I am preparing stew. Other than that, nothing else. So a portion is sold for #200( approximately $0.44). I bought four portions which is #800 and approximately $1.77.
That's all from my little market shopping. See you again next Friday for another #marketfriday hosted by @dswigle .

Great walk through the market! It's interesting to see the wide variety of vegetables, each with its own flavor shade.
