Let's make onion powder // Creative Sunday
Hello friends,
I know a couple of persons who do not like seeing onions in their meals. My best friend hates to eat onions. If you serve her food and she sees onions in her plate of food, she can use 1 hour to carefully pick out the onions before she eats. I am sure there are some persons like that here too.
Another set of persons do not like to put onions in a certain meal. For me, I don't like using onions to cook my soups. I don't know why actually but I don't like to see those slices of onion when I carry my Garri to swallow. I guess there are also persons in this category too. I know onions is very good and has a particular flavour it gives to meals. But definitely not my soups. But you see my beans, oh lord!. I love plenty of onions in my beans.
Another set of people don't have strength to cut onions. I fall into this category with my full chest. I can have the strength to prep for every other thing but when it comes to onions, I usually get tired sometimes to prep it. So if you fall in any of these categories, then let's make onion powder together.
I like this onion powder because it is faster and very convenient for you to use. For those that don't like to see slices of onions in their meals, you can trust this onion powder to come for the rescue. Especially when you want to make quick meals like noodles, or even to steam your proteins, you can sure use this onion powder.
Onion powder is very easy to make. We barely see onion powder in stores but when you eventually see it, it is usually very expensive. So you can save yourself some money and if you can, you can decide to sell it and make cool cash too.
Please send my own share of the profit as per your teacher.
Now, let's get started...
All you need is onions and your blender.
Note that you need to use strong onions to make this powder. Please don't use spoilt onions it won't give you something nice.
- Remove the back of the onions
- Wash thoroughly
- Slice in small sizes.
- Sun dry for 4-5 days.
- Blend into smooth powder
Note: Please if the sun is very hot, you can dry for 4-5 days. If not, please allow to dry till the onions becomes crisply. Also, when slicing your onions, please slice in small sizes so that it can be easier to blend into fine powder.
Please allow to dry very well so that it doesn't stick at the end of the day. If it doesn't dry well,it won't be smooth too like mine in the picture above.
This is the rainy season, it quite difficult to get your onions dry within a short period. While others can wait till whenever the sun dries the onions, other persons are impatient. You can skip the sun drying and try this method.
Alternative method
I recently discovered this method and i think i will henceforth use it because it is quick and easy.
- Peel and wash the onions
- slice in small sizes.
- Roast till dry.
-Blend into smooth powder
To know if it is dry, press it against your palm. If it comes out sticky, it is not dry. If it comes like crumbs, then you can proceed to blend.
I hope you try this out and please let me know when you eventually do. I will love to see yours.

This is the first time I'm hearing of onion powder and I don't think I approve of it because I happen to be under the category of people who loves to see onion in my food and eat them 😂
Onion powder is rare to find and it is very expensive.
I like plenty of onions in my beans. Otherwise I will just go with my onion powder to make other meals.
Just try this out and you will like it.
What I always know is the onion ball which we can chop or grind when making stew or soup...In fact I've learnt something here and I need to practice one.
