PhotoFeed Contest - Street Photography Round 150 | Street nativity scene (photos and poetic exercise) (Eng | Esp)

These days, walking through the center of my city (Cumaná, Venezuela), on the walkway that runs along the Manzanares River, I was surprised by a “nativity scene” (stable, belén) made in that place, with completely rustic elements (stones, sawdust, palms, etc.), which creatively represented the staging of formal nativity scenes. I couldn't find out who had come up with the idea or who had made it.

This heightened my sense of humility, typical of the biblical account of the birth of the Christ Child. I wanted not only to share some photos taken that day but also to write a poetic exercise, which I present to you after the photos.

Through the streets they go,
seeking refuge
In a secluded place,
without comfort or splendor,
the child will be born,
humble among the humble.

On the margins and in poverty,
a splendor will emerge,
with the scent of stubble,
of damp earth,
and among the stones,
it will be a revelation of life.

Pesebre callejero

En estos días, caminando por el centro de mi ciudad (Cumaná, Venezuela), en el malecón que bordea al río Manzanares, fui sorprendido por un “nacimiento” (pesebre, belén) hecho en ese lugar, con elementos completamente rústicos (piedras, serrín, palmas, etc.), que representaba, con creatividad, la escenificación propia de los pesebres formales. No pude saber de quién había sido la iniciativa ni quién (o quiénes) lo habían hecho.

Eso me potenció el sentido de la humildad propia del hecho relatado bíblicamente del nacimiento del Niño Jesús. He querido no solo compartir unas fotos tomadas ese día, sino escribir un ejercicio poético, que les entrego luego de las fotos.

Por las calles van
buscando refugio
En un lugar retirado
sin confort ni boato
nacerá el niño
humilde entre los humildes

Al margen y en la pobreza
surgirá un esplendor
con olor a rastrojo
a humedad de tierra
y entre las piedras
será revelación de vida
