Phone Photography Contest - #105 / A Church
The Minor Basilica of Santa Inés, in Cumaná (Venezuela), has been depicted many times in photographs and paintings. It is the most iconic church in the city’s history, with origins dating back to colonial times; it was destroyed by an earthquake and later rebuilt and renovated several times. Its current appearance dates from 1960.
It is located in the city’s traditional historic center, near the Castle of Santa María de la Cabeza and the oldest settlement, known as “Barrio San Francisco.”
It is highly cherished by both the Cumaná parishioners and the community at large and is a historical and cultural heritage site of undeniable value. Hence, this mural, created by a Cumaná painter, which depicts it on the façade of an old house located on the street that bears its name.
