Travelling Through Eastern Nigeria

I visited Ebonyi state in Eastern Nigeria, and it was not a completely pleasant experience. The primary causes were the hot weather and the failure of the transportation system. The journey was supposed to last 16 hours, but we ended up driving for about 26. The driver was a cunning fellow, so he extended the journey to take a break. He did not want to go full-throttle, so we stopped to sleep on the road.

This was something I dreaded. I was not prepared for the mosquitoes and rat, but they attacked full force. I slept on the ground for about an hour and remained awake throughout the night. I could not take a bath or brush my teeth in over 26 hours, and the heat made it even more difficult. The pictures I uploaded show exactly how hot it was. It was so hot that I could not feel my skin or even breathe normally.

However, the ride was horrendous, owing to the fact that it was public transportation rather than anything grand or private. However, it was a responsibility that I had to fulfill. I was on medication, and one thing I should not have done was expose myself to so much sunlight and heat, but I need to get some tests done to see if I have not been affected too much.

The funny thing is that rural areas do not have good water, making bathing a nightmare. During those nights, the mosquitos worked double time on me. Although it wasn't all gloom, the Village which was my last destination was a beautiful place. (I will share some photos later.) We had some of the best natural fruits, the air was sweet, the landscape was beautiful, and the soil was perfect for dipping your toes in, but the children were filthy, had sweaty creaks, and yet they all appeared healthy and macho.

I was probably the most fragile person there. I had pale, smooth, and soft skin with a blinking complexion, so they knew I was from the city.

I refused to take a bath due to my fear of water. Later on, I had no choice but to take a bath in one of the attached huts; the bathroom was open, and I simply stood there completely naked, scooping the hard water on my body.

I spent more time taking photos in Enugu than I did in Ebonyi, Abakaliki. However, I will eventually share the beautiful but rural nature of the village I visited.

For sure, my body is covered in mosquito bites, and the sun has done even more damage.

26 good hours on the road? That's hectic and reminds me of my Christmas travel with my kids 2years ago...we left on 24th by 4am and reached on the Christmas day when rice was almost ready
Really, the heat , the mosquito and the bad water is a concern
I hope you are fine Joe
I hope you return back to Lagos please 🥺

Yes about 26 hours and even more if I calculate well. I think you're from Enugu if I'm not wrong and to be very honest, your place is that far. I know I was going to face the mosquitoes and bad water but I had no choice, I hope it doesn't affect me.

My hometown is even farther away from the city

I toured Enugu a little and I saw the city side.
The mud house is from Ebonyi, I have more mud house pictures, although I didn't take as much as I want. I was exhausted, but the mud houses reminds me of the those ones in my own village

I felt more exhausted so I was really that fascinated lol. The place was very hot, I haven't felt so hot or even traveled such distance ever.

I'm from Imo state, we had a lot of mud house, last time I traveled

It's fascinating how such experiences can push our limits and introduce us to different facets of life. Despite the hardships with transportation and the relentless mosquitoes, the allure of the rural landscape and its simple pleasures seem to have left a lasting impression on you.

We have chosen this post to be curated by MCGI Cares Hive community. We are inviting you to join our community that study the words of God. You can also follow our official Youtube Channel. Keep doing the great job ❤️

Thank you. Yes, despite all the discomfort that Comes with it, it's a responsibility that I cannot ignore. So overall there were some good sides to the travel and not all disadvantages. Overall it was a mixed experience.

Thank you for the curation

In a "travel" post you didn´t share any pic about the landscape but 3 times your feet? Are they so interesting? Maybe you should change the title to "my feet in Eastern Nigeria"?

It's why I didn't use the travel tag if you check the tag. I have a different compliled post where I'm yet to edit the images.
People from the places I talked about would understand the experience. I was trying to mostly tell a story and the pictures was just to show locations and not landscapes. It was mainly the experience and the location.
So you of course, I have pictures of the landscape, I'm just trying to talk about these specific locations which are shown in the maps.

Omo 26hrs on the road is really crazy. Kudos to those who go there from time to time. I can imagine how bad the water will be but I’m sure it can’t be as bad as our Lekki water😂

Lekki water is truly bad, I don't think I can stay there, even if I could afford it..

That is a rough trip. Reminds me of a couple places I stayed in South America. Between flea bites and mosquitos it's not much fun! I'm glad you made it back OK, hopefully the filthy conditions didn't affect your health!

Yeah after 4 days I left my house I came back and I was relieved. My fear was to breakdown far away from my medications, clean water and bed rest. Mosquitoes and fleas are underestimated when it comes to how dangerous they can be.

Greetings,
Mosquito bite from the village will surely inject substance that will enhance your resistance to city mosquitoes.
Safe trip
Have a great time at each stop in your trip through the eastern part of the country

Hahahaha. Sorry for the horrible experience you had visiting Ebonyi. I'm a proud Ebonyian and I would say some parts of Abakaliki are a nice places to be.

I don't know which part you visited but the rural dwellers struggle so much with those amenities you mentioned. Hard water is main reason I hate visiting the village 😂, it will surely change your completion but what I love so much is the beautiful nature that the rural areas still possess.

The village was quite far and it was really far from civilization, electricity and so many other things. I hated being there though. It's a place called EZZI deep Inside the village. Three days, I didn't think I bathed well. The water is quite hard too.

Hahahaha. Have not been to Ezzi, I'm from Ohaozara, that's another L.G.A. . Sorry for such an experience 😥, that water and poor Network are what drives me fr visiting my village. Like once you get there, network must humble you making one means lots of updates and activities.

It sounds like a horrible trip and it sucks to hear that the driver extended the trip. Do they charge more because of that? I hope you are able to get back to life as normal soon.

I got back safe, I'm only hoping I don't get malaria. Some Nigerian drivers on long trips can be truly harsh and wicked.

Mosquito attack makes me unhappy when just one is around, out of town they appear to know you are fresh blood for them....

Sorry to hear you had such a miserable trip, sounds familiar to those Joe took always something in Africa to fear.

No bath, that sucks outdoor bucket for a shower about the best you will get on some regions.

I don't do well in such harsh situations because of my fear of infections and viruses, but sometimes trips as these are inevitable and responsibilities one needs to fulfill

Scary sleeping on floor with rats or other vermin running through, getting sick from the visit, one would have to way up the necessity.
