By itself, the view of the sea that stretches behind the Havana Malecón, that wall built to contain it, and which on more than one occasion has served little purpose, since nature does not understand walls or blocks, is a beautiful landscape. The warmth of Cuban waters is tinted with beautiful blues that range from bright turquoise to deeper tones, and for me, this mixture of colors combined with the reflection of the clouds in the sea when it is calm is one of the most beautiful sights that can be enjoyed in the waters that border the Malecón.

But if we also walk toward the Port of Havana where this extensive wall begins, we can enjoy this coastal strip alongside the city that unfolds behind it, with its centuries of antiquity but also with its more modern and dynamic face. An urban landscape that blends with the wind and the sea’s salt spray.

As an example of the new developments built in this area of Port Avenie are the 'Emboque de Luz', the station where one boards the well-known “Lanchita de Regla,” and the modern Floating Seafront Promenade, located right in front of the first seafront promenade of Old Havana, on Paula Avenue.

The 'Emboque de Luz' is the entrance to the dock where one boards the motorboats that transport passengers from this point in Havana to the municipality of Regla, located at the other end of the bay. I was lucky enough to pass by the place just as the two boats were arriving at the dock, and I stopped to observe the moment when some passengers were disembarking while others were preparing to board.

On the ground floor is the waiting room and a small corridor that connects to the dock where the public boards and disembarks. There is also a café where one can spend time while the boats arrive at the landing, or simply enjoy the marvelous view of the seascape and the port in the distance with its large ships and cargo vessels.

And if we walk a few meters further, we come across another example of modernity: the Floating Seaside Promenade, the perfect place to stop and observe the wide and blue panorama that stretches out before us. The ideal spot for a family stroll, a romantic date, or even for fishing.

The floor planks resemble wood, but when stepped on we notice it is an artificial material, softer and I suppose, also more resistant to the sea. Its entrance is a large esplanade that opens at two ends forming a T. In front, the view of the port, to one side the old tobacco warehouses, and at the other end the Emboque de Luz. Behind us, the city with its architecture laden with history. A mixture of the old, the modern, and the murmur of the sea.

Although the bridge was built only a few years ago, some signs of deterioration can already be seen. A few planks are missing from the floor, perhaps due to the effects of salt or the constant passage of people. The truth is that the lack of maintenance is accelerating the wear of the dock. Even so, it remains a very popular walk, with a charming view that continues to attract and enchant visitors.

This is without a doubt a place I recommend to anyone who has the chance to visit Old Havana, I'm sure you’ll love it.

Por sí sola la vista del mar que se extiende tras el Malecón habanero, ese muro construido para contenerlo, y que en más de una ocasión ha servido de poco, pues la naturaleza no entiende de murallas ni bloques, es un paisaje hermoso. La calidez de las aguas cubanas se tiñe de hermosos azules que van desde el turquesa brillante hasta los tonos más intensos, y para mí, esta mezcla de colores combinados con el reflejo de las nubes en el mar cuando está sereno es una de las vistas más bellas que se pueden disfrutar en las aguas que bordean el Malecón.

Pero si además caminamos hacia el Puerto de La Habana donde inicia este extenso muro, podemos disfrutar de esta franja costera junto a la ciudad que se despliega detrás, con sus siglos de antigüedad, pero también con su rostro más moderno y dinámico. Un paisaje urbano que se entremezcla con el viento y el salitre del mar.

Como ejemplo de lo novedoso que se ha construido en esta zona de la Avenida del Puerto están el Emboque de Luz, la estación donde se aborda la conocida “Lanchita de Regla” y el moderno Paseo Marítimo Flotante, justo frente al primer paseo marítimo de Habana Vieja, en la Avenida de Paula.

El Emboque de Luz, es la entrada al muelle por donde sube a las lanchas a motor que trasladan a los pasajeros desde este punto de La Habana hacia el municipio de Regla, ubicado al otro extremo de la bahía. Es una construcción moderna que le dan al entorno una vista atractiva y actual. Una amplia estructura metálica de dos niveles, recubierta únicamente por cristales.

Tuve la buena suerte de pasar por el lugar justo cuando llegaban las dos lanchas al muelle, y me detuve a observar el momento en que unos pasajeros descendían mientras otros se preparaban para subir.

En la planta baja se encuentra el salón de espera y un pequeño corredor que conecta con el muelle por donde el público embarca y desembarca. También hay una cafetería donde pasar el rato mientras las lanchas llegan al atracadero, o simplemente disfrutar de la maravillosa vista del paisaje marítimo y del puerto en la distancia con sus grandes buques y barcos cargueros.

Y si caminamos unos metros más, nos encontramos con otro ejemplo de modernidad, el Paseo Marítimo Flotante, el lugar perfecto para detenerse a observar el amplio y azul panorama que se extiende ante nosotros. El sitio ideal para un paseo en familia, una cita romántica o incluso para pescar.

Los tablones del suelo asemejan la madera, pero al pisarlos notamos que es un material artificial, más blando y supongo, también más resistente al mar. Su entrada es una gran explanada que se abre en dos extremos formando una T. Al frente, la vista del puerto, a un lado los antiguos almacenes de tabaco, y en el otro extremo el Emboque de Luz. A nuestras espaldas, la ciudad con su arquitectura cargada de historia. Una mezcla entre lo antiguo lo moderno y el rumor del mar.

Aunque el puente tiene pocos años de construido ya se pueden ver algunas huellas de deterioro. Faltan algunos tablones en el suelo, quizás por efecto del salitre o del constante paso de personas. Lo cierto es que la falta de mantenimiento está acelerando el desgaste del muelle. Aun así sigue siendo un paseo muy concurrido, con una vista encantadora que continúa atrayendo y encantando a los visitantes.

Este es sin dudas un lugar que recomiendo a los que tengan la oportunidad de visitar la Habana Vieja, estoy segura que les va a encantar.
