I guess a trip into a city that I have lived in for more than 10 years isn't really...A trip!

However almost a year ago, my family and I moved to the country. About an hour and a half from Edmonton for a complete change of pace. Today though, I had to take a quick trip into the city and brought my mom along for the ride who is visiting from the east coast of Canada.

It's crazy how I became a tour guide this afternoon, as we took a quick stroll around the 'Ice District' of downtown Edmonton, Canada.

I really do love this city. I'm from Toronto originally so big cities have been a part of my life for so many years. But ever since we moved to the country, I appreciate the architecture of the buildings, and the history of the capital of the province I live in...Alberta.

Quick details about the pics:

First is a shot of the towers in Ice District. This is becoming the entertainment center of downtown Edmonton with plenty of shops, restaurants and hotels. These are brand new sky scrapers, only a few years old.

Second pic is Stantec Tower. This is the tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto. You can see this thing for miles outside the city.

Third is the original...CN Tower. The first sky scraper in Edmonton and the name sake of a certain tower in Toronto lol

Fourth is Rogers Place, the home arena of my beloved Edmonton Oilers of the NHL! I love this building, but the food is way over priced lol

And finally, the strip right beside Rogers Place...Cool restaurants are everywhere you turn on this road!

All in all, we had a fun day in town....And now I get to drive back to the middle of nowhere ;)

!LOLZ I love the memes about this.

I live in Cape Town and my friend came to visit me from the interior of the country and he felt as though he were freezing in like... 25C, he is practically Australian.

Cape Town is moderate though. We have temperate weather with winter rains. Our winters hardly ever get to negative temperatures Celcuis. However, in the interior in winter they DO reach negative temperatures!

Is there any specific reason for this place named to be Ice district?

Go Oilers go ! I grew up watching Gretzky play for the Soo Greyhounds. I think I still have his greyhounds and Oilers Rookie cards somewhere in the attic.

lol that's worth a little bit if you can ever find it. Yeah Oilers where always my second favorite team even before moving from Toronto. But now I gave up on the Leafs and I'm Oilers lol

It's a cool city. Winter kind of sucks because it's cold, but summers are awesome.

That massive skyscraper with the clear sky is a sight to behold. I'm just fascinated with tall buildings :)

I love them. Especially this one, they just finished it a few years ago and would never be able to build it earlier. There was an old airport near downtown that made it impossible to build super tall buildings. Since the airport is gone now, buildings are popping up a lot.

Today though, I had to take a quick trip into the city...

I LOL'd when I read that. Since moving out to the countryside six months ago I have discovered there is no such thing as a quick trip into town. Whenever I need to make a "quick trip" my whole day gets taken up. It's a weird sort of time skip. I think I'll only be gone for 3-4 hours. But when I get back home it is actually 5-6 hours. It's odd like that.

Oh absolutely....It's like an hour and a bit to get into town...Traffic and then 'city stuff' takes even more time lol
