The Yonkers Angel sculpture
Hello and good morning to all,
Today I'd like to share another on-site sculpture I carved last year in NYC.
I was referred to the Yonkers Flower funeral home in NYC from the other jobs I've done there, like the Woodlawn cemetery. Which you can find those sculpture blogs if you scroll down my feed.
Here is the stump I needed to carve. The wood is white oak and harder to carve than the usual white pine I'm used to.
I had the customer rent a lift for me, here I am making the first few cuts.
First day is always tedious as I have to block out and find the form, removing large chunks from the stump.
Trying not to let these large chunks fall and damage what was below.
Day 2 with more blocking and finding form.
She's coming along nicely..
Day 3 was finding details and getting ready for varnish..
Customer didn't want her painted but did allow some shadowing with the airbrush.
Next up, varnish on the final day.
Finished up for a very satisfied customer whom I made friends with.
He even sent me a picture of the tree with a branch growing out of it. The tree survived somehow and was growing, sprouting leaves.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I saw, if so feel free to upvote and reblog. I love what do and I'm happy to share here on Peakd. I have much more to share so please do stay tuned.
Thanks for looking,
Jon
