The "Life is Good" Moose
Hello and good morning all,
Today I'd like to share a piece I carved for a local business, The Life is Good store.
The store had a chainsaw carved moose displayed outside for over 20 years and it was nearing the end of its life. Rotted to where it was falling apart. The store owners called me and commissioned a replacement. Unfortunately I didn't get pictures of the old moose before they scrapped it.
Here it is with just a couple cuts. I remember my elbow bothering me that day so that's as far as I got.
The next day I blocked the rest out, here it was starting to look like something.
Almost ready for details at this point..
I used a 2 and 1/2 inch slab for the antlers as requested and made sure they fit and it looked right.
Dialed it in here with details..if you look closely there's a mouse in the antlers..that was just for fun..but the customer loved it and decided to keep it there.
Here it is after torching it...
Sanding the char off and it was ready for paint.
I airbrushed the brown first then outlined and shadowed with black, using the airbrush.
Next came varnish and some teal for the coffee cup.
Delivered him to a very happy customer who displays him proudly outside of their store.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I saw, if so feel free to upvote and reblog. I love what I do and I'm happy to share here on Peakd. Please do stay tuned as I have much more to share on this awesome platform.
Thanks for looking,
Jon
