#26: SMASH IT - embrace the technology and preserve our culture.

How would the world look like:

  • If our kids stand up and give the seat to an elder who was standing.
If our kids don't rebuke or abuse their elders.
  • If our kids used magic words at all times. "Sorry", "excuse me", "pardon me", "please", "thank you."
  • If our kids learn to speak their mother's tongue fluently as they speak the lingua franca.
  • If our kids don't look at their parents as old fashioned, but stick to their good advice.

Where are the ethics, values, beliefs and practices our fathers taught us in the 20th century?

Our elders once said, "if a glass plate is broken, no matter how we try joining them together, the shape won't be the same."

This statement is equivalent to the existing trend of the world we are living in now, because instead of filtering what is best for us, we embrace the whole Western culture, welcoming the good, bad and ugly.

In a way, this doesn't help or improve the family, society and country at large. Inasmuch as the world is technologically advanced, this doesn't give room for compromise on our morals and norms. If it does, it is going to be tasking to help fix the next generation.

In the Western region of my country, Nigeria, boys lie on the ground and greet an elder while the girls kneel down. Instead of the culture to be preserved, it is worsening day after day. Boys do not greet at all, if they do, they wave and walk, same with the girls. Just the other day, I read in the news, a child laid his hands on his mother because she scolded his girlfriend. Isn't this shameful and repugnant? What is the world turning into?
Obviously, it wasn't so in the beginning.

It's time we SMASH every 21st century knowledge that violates the ethics and norms of the former generation. Yes, the development is welcoming, but it is to improve what was built and not destroy it.

If I may ask, what mischievous behavior have you noticed in this generation that wasn't so in your time and you wish to share it?

Let's join us together and preserve the good conduct our parents taught us. Let our kids be aware that we are their guardians, and as such, we must guide them. It is not fair for a child to sue his or her parents and allegate "child abuse" on them, meanwhile the parents were discipling them with a rod.
Enough of too much petting, discipline should be the order of the day. Parents are now scared of their own kids. Why shouldn't they be? How did you raise him or her? Did you take note of the company they kept? Or you assumed, "they are just friends."

A pregnant woman is standing on a train because all seats were occupied; but a child will be so comfortable sitting in the same train with earbuds on, listening to music without knowing what courtesy demands. Oh! What a generation, let's smash such culture and embrace a culture that attracts blessings to ourselves, a culture that makes us responsible, submissive and well trained.

What you say about children is true, the best way to rescue the culture and even keep us emotionally healthy is to live the simple life as children see it, of course without ceasing to plan and be responsible for our actions.
