Cultivated through out the year in the region that I am living there are lots of farmers who are taking this route as an alternative line of farming business compared to other crops that are seasonal, they plant vegetables on lands close to the river during dry season when there is no rain and then move away from the river during the raining period of the year to prevent the river from flooding their farms, during dry season farmers use irrigation to wet the vegetable farm while they the rain takes care of this during the rain parts of the year but in the two periods there is one thing that is common and that is the financial cost .

During the dry period of the year this farmers have to make preparations for irrigation which is a lot of money and that make the cost of vegetables to be expensive during that period that way they can balance things up but during the raining period the price is a lot cheaper because they spend a lot lesser than they do during the raining season .

Farmers grow different kinds of vegetables here but one that is very common is the African spinach that is popularly know as efo Tete by the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria this vegetable can go into so many different dishes like stew , jellof rice and it can be used to make soup for different dishes like pounded yam it takes less than three weeks to start cutting from it after planting which is a lot earlier than so many vegetables,it is fresh and soft .

There is a lot of planting going on around rivers and this vegetable is one of these common plants of this season ,it has it's own problem most notably insects like locust and other pest since what we need from it is the leaf .
