I am used to doing grocery as I need and since I am still at the motel I just buy what I need to last me two to three days then I go again.

The other day I met a lady at the grocery store Woolworths, she noticed I was looking for something and she asked what I was looking for, she ended up helping me out with my list.

Interestingly she is a South African, she stayed in Rivonia, Johannesburg less than 40km where I lived in Johannesburg.

She was also out to do grocery but was very kind to give me some tips.

She showed me where to find South African maize meal and you should see my face lit up with joy that I can have my pap and spinach in New Zealand.

So today I went shopping for a maize meal, spinach and chicken.
The 2.25kg cost me NZD 7.89 which is equivalent to R87, it is pricey but it is a must have for me.

As the days go by, I am settling in gradually.

Shipping products from South Africa to New Zealand will take so long and a lot of money. If they have done it we can also ship products from the Western part of Africa to New Zealand.
Business opportunities are available.

I was very happy to see SA products in NZ, from my observation there are more South Africans in NZ than West Africans or other parts of Africa, so that counts in the availability of SA products. But, I do agree there is a business opportunity to have West African products available too.

Oh wow bro, a Kenyan would be overjoyed to find maizemeal anywhere. There is this food we make using maize meal called 'ugali' we eat it with veggies and meat too. Thank you for sharing and keep enjoying your weekend :}

Lol, I was overjoyed bro, Ugali sounds like a common food across Africa, like in SA, Nigeria, and Benin it is prepared similarly. Over here I had it with spinach and chicken, you should have seen the smile on my face.

Thanks and you too.

Packet of maize meal will last a couple of days, transfer into glass bottle that keeps it fresh as well. Rooibos tea would be a must and glad to see it on the shelf. Once you know similar you will be able to switch between what you knew here and learn more about local produce.

Have fun, always good to cook your own!

There must be lots of local food I am yet to explore which I will like, I believe with time I will discover them. Yes, I will have to get a proper container for my maize meal.

I always enjoy cooking my meals, which saves me money as well.

When money is not tight it's fine to treat yourself to something different, not been that way for a good couple of years now.

Normally purchase and plan special meals in the home that way I know what we eating. A little fussy when it comes to food from fast food joints.
