Not a farewell my nephew & nieces hope for
I was initially supposed to depart from Lagos to Auckland on the 24th of October. My flight route was from Lagos to Doha, from Doha to Hong Kong, and from Hong Kong to Auckland.
I arrived at the airport for early check-in, only to find out I needed a visa for the transit to Hong Kong, I explained I would not be getting out of the airport but it turned out Nigerians need a visa to transit via Hong Kong.
The excitement for my nieces and nephew suddenly turned to disappointment as they were only at the airport for the first time and excited to see me off.
I immediately knew I was not going to fly that day and told them not to worry, the flight issue would be sorted, they were so worried. I was disappointed as well but also blamed myself for not checking if I needed a transit visa, I did that when I was departing from SA, the only reason why I failed to do this was the travel from Benin to Lagos and being occupied with opening a bank account made it skip my mind.
Either way, the flight would have been rebooked since I was not keen on getting a Hong Kong visa that takes +-4 weeks and +$200 processing.
Who will be going through such trouble just to transit via Hong Kong?
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great

It doesn't make much sense to get a transit visa when one is not stepping out into the transit country imo. I wonder what the purpose of the visa will be and how long will it serve.
It is just an annoying requirement though it is different depending on nationality. When Checked Benin and South Africa are exempted from a transit visa.
It goes to tell you the how Nigerian passport is treated globally.

Extra leg in travel was not worth it from Africa, try keep as direct as possible always.
Family always miss each other, at least you had some time getting to know them all again.

Yes, they are all grown up, it is amazing that I got the opportunity to reunite with them again.
Something they won't forget in a hurry either, might get them to consider moving further afield.
Sure they have been wishing they just lack making the move.
Many are lacking finance or simply not ready yet, it will happen one day.
