Shared wealth is fortune. Deolinda 36

Yo, Hello everyone, all good? :)

Today I'm going to share with you some of this week's achievements in our artistic process of developing and capturing images for the film we are making for the decentralized community of extreme sports and subversive culture GnarsDAO.

The film presented shortly is a consequence of the interest with the Nouns and web 3 ecosystem. We are not very interested in giving significant spoilers to the viewer, but rather, a kind of introductory writing to the project.

Surfer and shaper Matheus Miranda in a roundhouse cutback at Praia Grande, Arraial do Cabo. by Mariana Brito.

As a result of the zimardrp Proposal, the film "Deolinda 36" will encompass all the actions carried out as proposed in the proposal, from the production of innovative and creative products for distribution to surf networks and artists in partnership with the Airdrop Culture brand and the Platform SurfguruDAO, reforestation of an area that was deforested and burned, a permanent protection area, called (APP), production of noggles upcycling keychains through a technological operating system with cnc cutting, production of an asymmetrical board, a gnars board model with partner Maze Surf Crafts (Matheus Miranda) and the creation of the film itself with partner Thiago Souza from Item Filmes, a film production company.

The focus of this text is to share the achievements made in Rio das Ostras, Rio de Janeiro, Buzios as part of shaping the Gnars custom board and a little of our adventures over the last few days that I have been able to spend here in Rio.

zimardrp interview

Our main plan was to capture the cutting, design and first steps of the shape of the gnars surfboard model, but when you have 2 talented people in cinematography, like Mariana Brito, wife of Maze, and Thiago Coutinho things become easier. . looking from two different perspectives and equipment such as (Black Magic Camera and HandCam Camcorder) are capable of creating images with different but super complementary depths.

The board model chosen for this project was an asymmetrical one, with a parallelogram design, which have already been boards that were objects of study for me and Maze years ago, so why not further consolidate this hydrodynamic study and generate this interaction with Web3 since it also contains asymmetric and decentralized lines in the system.

Handcrafting Gnars Asym Model

The development of this board was a kind of reinterpretation of the first parallelogram already made with a touch of the second, commonly known as a burgundy model, with a touch of the current maze design, something a little more refined, less robust.

The asymmetrical tail is always a complicated task for me, there are so many wing and curvature options, but my companion Maze takes it in stride, then grabs his crazy off-center templaters and starts scratching. The process was interesting, so it's about trusting and feeling it.

For those who want to understand a little better about asymmetrical boards and how they work, I recommend reading another post here on Hive talking a little better, briefly, as it is a subject/design that requires depth and experience, it is not a mere fusion of twin with quad fin or simply crooked boards, but simply a new distribution of weight, volume and design of the surf board according to the wave in question and the surfer in operation.

It's always exciting to have this first board process and start imagining what it will be like from now on. Now we wait for the gnars custom fiber to carry out the lamination, pigmentation and finishing of the board.

Surf or DAO

So, after building the first part of the shaper, such as drawing lines, planing and starting to carve the block, we went to the surf. Time for dynamism at sea. Conditions in the lake region are never easy. Plenty of options for places to surf, but logistics are somewhat complicated given the chaos caused by the traffic. There were 3 special sessions held during this time.

Each of these peaks with their own peculiar beauty, we recorded spontaneous moments of the session.

  • Tucuns Beach, Buzios ensured different colors in waves to the left of the rock, incredible light, cliffs, rocky structure and even a cave. It's really cool to be able to hold a session for a specific project and find several people there who value the work and encourage it in some way.

  • Praia Grande, Arraial do Cabo, characterized by its special sunset, cold and clear water, and lots of people enjoying tourism and a day at the beach. Arraial do Cabo has high waves, and on that same peak there is the corner of Pesqueiro, there the waves can break classically to the left and are very long.

  • Unamar (Valinha) spot. Like every small surfing province, there is a place where surfers meet daily to talk, test their boards, have a beer and keep the local scene warm. It's incredible to experience these moments in the valley of Log, developed to be used as a monofin, which gives them a more authentic and classic feel. Generally used with a greater volume than high-performance longboards, these boards provide relaxed, line surfing, which immediately recalls the origins of surfing and the Californian scene of the 1960s.

Interviews

The truth is that projects like the one that GnarsDAO provides as a decentralized community are very important for surfing as well as for art, as well as for athletes and people who need alternative assistance to the commercial and capitalist world with the help of blockchain. Participating in a project like this is an honor for us and we are excited to share with you some of our work in film form.

Interview images were recorded in front of the pipi boat, a gift from Mari's grandfather, with some boards that we surfed in the last few days just to contextualize the creation of the background, but the truth is that we didn't do anything different, it's a real lifestyle. Ok, I can say that something a little more different was the presence of a keel to hide the cell phone that recorded our voice for better hearing.

I've been working with sailboats for a good 7 to 8 years, aka MazeSurfCrafts, so it's very interesting to see our trajectory and how it has evolved over new board models, partners, products, films, trips, today we are a kind of family, and for For me to be able to carry out work from a new perspective of financing and collaboration is beyond words.

In the photo, Maze talks a little about our trajectory and perspective on this project while petting "Aikau", our warrior mascot who has been present for 15 years. Maze uses a gnars product developed in partnership and an artistic "pancake for breakfast" process after surfing in the ditch for about 3 hours straight.

Having this time to develop this project and be around friends is something that makes it much easier to focus on work. Luckily my friends are great professionals, and when we share a piece of pizza, everyone is happier, and together. That's some of the realistic energy of surfing. Life demands obligations, responsibilities and work, but we can control this with the skills learned by the sea and treat all this work flow with mastery. Full film coming soon, available on different streams and on the @gnarsdao channel. Hope you like it.
