Yearning For The Veld

Deep Emotional Desire To Walk In Nature

Meaning: Landscapes and lifestyle associated with the South African grasslands, often called the "veld".

Stories written, songs, poetry all sweep one of their feet when you know you belong, no one escapes the deep desire to enjoy the freedom under blue skies.

IMG_0249.JPG

Photography to entice those who would love to visit, many problems in the land, with correct good planning anything is achievable. Some walk jungles, jump off cliffs, high dive for me the freedom is called the veld where every sense is aware of danger although often one will not hear it coming, safer in the veld than in the cities with humans.

Butterflies on Lily Pad Leaf

With some of the flora below it is evident why so much flourishes in this dense forested region.

Flora.png

One thing attracts the next, all live in harmony in nature, although it too can be cruel.

Birds.png

Cats in the region not always sighted, leopard is plentiful yet to see one!

Countryside ever changing, with seasons or around the next corner the region has so much on offer.

What most arrive in the hope of seeing are the big five, they are here we have come across over the years but on this one visit I'll share some not yet published previously I hope.

There are many things out there that could do you harm, eyes alert, ears listening at all times watch where you walk, do so safely....

Lichen clings to trees, some crazy hairdo, over developed staghorns...

Mushrooms new life everywhere, creation is a powerful tool in nature.

With estuary to explore from the water, or walks on the beach one has to be aware of this being wild, animals live here.

With all the awful things taking place, this is where my heart and soul yearn to be for awhile, so took an afternoon off to share exactly where I would love to be right now!

Only in May to July, might venture up there in another season one day, it simply gets too hot and humid for my liking.

Stay warm and safe.

I'm loving this cooler weather, soup and bredie weather, still in shorts and slip-slops only two days this year in a tracksuit for warmth. !LUV

My wife dress like an Eskimo, and I have to wear a jacket that can ward off the rain. But it is the icy cold winds of the Atlantic that gets to all of us here in the Cape.

Promise of cold weather disappeared here, was actually looking forward to it. Sounds crazy I know, winter is the time of year I enjoy most.

So sorry, but there is always a next time. I also used to enjoy winter, but lately my chronics are catching up to me.

Hope those ailments mend soon, feel it in the bones not walking as often as I once did with Woody laid up now. Always look at the bright side, tomorrow it will be warm again.

We tested our bodies to the maximum when young, now pay the toll fee for not being more cautious. Take care and love to Marian.

Thank you and you can also have some !LUV

What a delightful walk in the wild! Umm... what, wild cats just walk around in those places? Don't they attack people?

You seldom see them, they are exceptionally shy, lions on occasion if resting, leopard a lucky sighting I am hoping for one day again.

I have been obsessed with watching lions lately, looking at these photos reminds me of how often they prey on the buffalos.
Always an experience to see these animals as long as one is safe.

Got great viewing of lions in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve when we ventured from St Lucia for day drive through reserves, amazing after a kill relaxing under thorn trees close to the road.

There is a magic about the place, great open spaces with warm sunshine. Smiling, friendly people once you out of the cities as well.

Short demarcated walks allowed at your own peril, mostly drive when in the reserves unless with an armed guard on foot. Stunning no matter where you wander.
