Walk Lightly

Life Is Seeing Bird Footprints In The Sand

Birds walk lightly seldom leaving footprints the only clear photograph is deep within the archives,

Going through snaps from beach walks one realizes how lightly birds do walk, often in water where it is washed away by the tide.

IMG_4500.JPG

Around clumps of beach plants the birds lightweight footprints may last a short while, when the wind rises they too will be wiped off the sand.

IMG_2730.JPG

A river beach where not many venture more prints will be found, some birds along with cattle that roam the region to be sure.

Of course we leave different prints no matter how big or small said the gull giving me that look ! Difference is we don't leave trash like you humans do....

IMG_0976.JPG

When we only have one leg, losing one to nylon gut, plastic and crap you toss around, rings off tin cans we battle to survive, both legs required leaving proper footprints in the sand!

IMG_0512.JPG

Enough ranting about birds with only one leg now!

Little touch humour we light weight and only make the sand roll downhill when hopping from spot to spot around a well maintained garden.

Look at the surprise on his face creating a small avalanche in his wake.

Nice photos! I love the one legged gull. Can't believe you got that shot. Where were you?

Actually two different gulls, one on post the other one on the ground, photographs taken at Cape Vidal on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

Ground gull was no further than six foot from me, landed to pick up what it thought a treat, dropped it in dismay.

Large number of birds lose their legs due to nylon/plastic, heads get stuck in rings used to indicate a bottle is sealed, all plastic.

Actually, I can't remember to ever have seen bird footprints ... wait, I remember bird footprints in the snow on our balcony, but that would be pretty much all, I believe.

The look of the one-legged gull is telling everything and she's very right, because we are the ones who leave our dangerous trash everywhere and we don't care if someone or an animal gets hurt.

All lovely images - the last one is my favourite 😊

Nice big crow with footprints in the snow, that would be epic!

Bird will tear it's leg off to rid itself of a gut line tightening or hindering flight.

Little robin sure did look surprised by the havoc it created moving sand clod !LOLZ

There are crows around, but unfortunately they don't get that close. Maybe because the cats love birds 😻
Have you seen the movie "125 hours"? It's awesome how fast an animal is able to decide such things while a human needs days.

By the way, didn't you want to see some snow? This is not me but my van in the snow - I am glad that I don't need to drive home today 🤣 !LOLZ ... and it's still snowing as you can see 🌨️

Cats don't like to get their paws wet perhaps the crows will visit !LOLZ

Never seen the movie will have to look out for it, animals normally out smart us!

Your van looks completely wrapped up and parked in tight, snow shoveling to be done before you go anywhere by the look of it.

Well, our gray cat Onyx loves to play in the snow although he late rdoesn't like it when the snow melts and he gets wet 🤣 !LOLZ

I'll dig the van up tomorrow afternoon when I go home. They say it will stop snowing some time tomorrow morning and then it will rain and all the beautiful white stuff will be gone 😥

Onyx a lovely name, sounds wild. Now some cat and crow prints on demand....

Snow is now deep enough to fall back into and lie for awhile before shoveling it away, power soft it looks inviting.

Have yourself a great day, if our weather app is correct promise of lightening storms later with rain to follow! Wait and see they have been wrong for so long already.

My kids thought the name suits to his gray colour 😺
Sorry, no footprints available - the snowing has stopped and at the moment it's raining - the weatherman was right. We have got a lot of snow, but the rain will wash a lot away.

I'm quite tired after the nightshift, but my day was fine and I hope that you have had a nice day too 😀

Name always gives character when matched to the mood when given, sounds active!

Perhaps next time it snows, you not working shift you may have the opportunity yet to capture the birds or the cat prints, maybe both!

Shift working always takes it's toll, messes with your head and sleep pattern, take it easy and try enjoy.

Cooler weather arrived here too, one maybe two days if we lucky, so nice to be able to escape the heat for short period after two solid weeks of heat.

Yep, and the red cat's name is "Pete" - I have no idea how a Pete should look like but he really looks like a Pete 😂 !LOLZ

I will try to think of foot prints next time when I'm out 😉

It was so much easier when I was young - now I'm nothing but tired after a shift 😴

Cool, it's great that you have at least a couple of cooler days - enjoy it 😀

Pete is a perfect name, red might be a story/comic book character you don't know about and children remembered.

Sure to get footprints when you remember to look for them, never fun being tired trying to think about anything!

When we were young we had oodles of energy, pity you cannot bottle it up for older age... !LOLZ

!PIZZA dinner with !LUV - another hot day here again.

Pete is somehow a really stupid cat but he's so lovely too 😺 He can't jump higher than half a meter - he only thinks he can't, so we always have to help him when he wants to jump on a sideboard or table 🤣 !LOLZ

Yep, I will not forget the footprints 👣

That would be great, but I don't think that we would save energy for later when we are young.

You are so right, birds walk light and I try to find more traces when we walk in the park, but it is rather hard.

Sadly I see gulls with one leg only too.

I hope a lot of people get to see the message in this article, I have been through the comments and they got me laughing.

Improper waste management has put not just birds but lots of animals existence at risk. It means nothing to us when we throw those things carelessly and I hope this reaches more audience.

Watching them jump around on one leg might look funny, let's imagine if we have to move around on one leg.

Fishing line appears main culprit for loss of legs, have seen heads stuck in plastic, our sea bird rescue have written about our shoreline problems.

Cutting black-tripe for my dog I have encountered large pieces of plastic inside the cows guts, it is very true in what they say, plastic is now in the fish we eat, many animals affected.

Beautiful photos and beautiful post.

I love your irony and your way of writing and I think that as far as nature is concerned we see it in the same way eh eh!

Thanks for sharing!

They walk lightly? Really!
And it's true, they don't leave trash!!!!
Don't you wish sometimes that we were birds...
just birds... we come, we go.
Walking lightly.
