Step Back In Time

Travel Back To Rectify

Regrets, I have a few, now to travel back to adjust but one with a week of my choice, what to rectify?

Hindsight is 50/50, life is a bitch when you entertain a magic moment to change something that has already gone. We live for tomorrow with yesterday hanging over our shoulder like a dark cloud if we allow it.

Let's swing through the gate of yesteryear....

IMG_0959.JPG

Last week spent in Drakensberg to celebrate my brothers 70th birthday what a pleasure being able to be with him. My brother older passed away on his 69th, we went away four months earlier never knowing it would be the last holiday we would spend together. Younger sister lives in another province, longing to live closer, we keep regular contact almost every other day of the week.

IMG_1268.JPG

Now back to opportunity of a week to change one thing in my life it would be a week, very selfishly of being with my parents and siblings together. Week of August 15th to 21st, 1970 before any of us married would be my week of choice.

Why you may ponder, once a mother you find your own children come first through thick and thin. This week we would have spent time together being my Mothers birthday during the week.

Dreaming with my eyes open, a week would give opportunity to be at one, growing up we tend to have our own ideas, never really sit long enough to appreciate what we have within the moment.

IMG_1485.JPG

Had we listened to each other would future events have changed? I do believe the possibility may have altered many events we randomly discussed when seeing each other.

We cannot change history only adjust, I believe lessons learned be passed onto the next generation in an attempt of bringing about a better life by discussing/debating from young to appreciate what one has before it is all gone.

IMG_1679.JPG

Like a reflection, walking down the path one knows not, we savour the moments now in silver, which we never grasped when young.

Thanks for joining me reminiscing my week I would love to visit again, yes to open my ears and listen!

Lol such a cute back-in-the-day photo, I am assuming you are the one on the left and your younger sister carried by your mom.
Beautiful spot for your brother's birthday.

Am sorry about your parents, I miss mine too, dad passed away in 2005, and mom in 2015. I was in SA when mom passed and couldn't travel home for the funeral, it still saddens me to date when I think about her.

Life...

Parents and siblings is hard to accept their passing, we all think this life will never end, even though we know.

Circumstances surrounding funeral arrangements may not work out, always hurts when not able to return home.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good day
What a beautiful post, full of many emotions, what a good choice, if I could go back in time I would also choose a week like this, when all the brothers lived with our parents
I loved this advice "appreciate what you have before it's over" many times because of the speed in which we live we do not appreciate the beautiful things that are lived daily

I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon

Thanks so much for the visit and support as always.

We tend to reflect the older we get, moments we may not have fully appreciated at the time.

Hope you and your family still are able to get together and enjoy making new memories, holding the old dear to your heart.

What a beautiful family Joans reminds me of my own, those moments are magical to enjoy as you say, time passes inexorably, and we must take advantage of the instances in the present because we will never know when we will have that chance.

We are 7 brothers all alive, I am the oldest with 60 and more (laughs).

The landscapes are a spectacle. Lucky to be together and share together as a family, no matter how silver our hair is.

I dream of seeing my parents and siblings since 2018 for reasons beyond my control I have not been able to see them.

Best regards

Always enjoyable being able to meet up with family, seven brothers must have been so much fun growing up.

Hopefully soon you will be able to enjoy seeing your family all together, not easy once some move cities with travel distances becoming an issue.

!LUV thanks for visiting and sharing.

I appreciate your comment, it is very difficult to see you all live more than 40 years ago in the USA, including my elderly parents and I stayed in my country, and now it is much more difficult, and that sometimes breaks my heart...

Many parents remain here in South Africa with their children scattered around the world, very hard when you never have the touch, feel, hug contact.

I think it is the same here in America, at least in my case I would love to hug my parents again, my 84-year-old mother and 86-year-old father, I would love to sit next to them and watch them, hug them and listen to them, it would be for me a wonderful gift in this life. Thank you for your gesture of solidarity, I appreciate your look.

The picture of them a little younger is on my profile picture.

With all my respect, I send you an embrace of strength and faith. ☮️

Happy and joyful week with the complete family - what a great time that would be! It's really good that you and your siblings still come together, celebrating each other's lives, going on adventures and creating memories altogether.

It was great being able to celebrate together, arriving back home next day afforded his children more time to celebrate as family unit over the weekend.

My brothers wife and daughter shared time away with us.

That's really nice and thanks to technology that despite your brother's wife and daughter away, they still shared the celebration with you.

Time with each other is quality time always, special occasion we enjoyed. Being in nature an added bonus. Other family still made contact thanks to technology when it works in the region.😆

That's definitely one of the best times and with nature too! And of course, the perks of today's tech 😆

The time we spend with family is so precious, and sometimes we don't realize how wonderful and unique those moments can be. Nothing is for granted.
Lovely pic of your family back in time ♡

Family photography like this was taken by a professional photographer in the day, you went into studio in your very best outfits. I think I was made to wear a dress (light blue if I remember correctly), yes the face says it all, never enjoyed posing sessions (still don't), thankfully they seldom happened as it was expensive.

Now over 60 years later one looks back to enjoy the very few photographs taken, little pieces of memories over the years.

Thanks for visiting and kind comment. !LUV

Dear Joan, these days I have reflected a lot on my behavior, there are arguments and bad moments that one can avoid, but if many of these things happen for a reason, they have a reason.

This event in the community has helped us to think and return the past to go and ask for forgiveness, to give us a hug with our loved ones and even to celebrate a party.

It is good that you have taken the time to celebrate your week as you feel in your heart.

Wonderful week! Lovely place but it's the bonding and time spent with family that is more precious.

Had we listened to each other would future events have changed?

Definitely! Regrets and what ifs but all we can do is move on and live in the moment.

What a happy but also a melancholic story Joan, life certainly is a bitch at times not so!
What a lovely family photo that is, it looks like you had a wonderful week away!
I'm so sorry I only now saw your blog, I've been fighting with getting all my Apps on to my new cell phone, in between my other duties, and some stuff are proving to be highly irritating as Google is not so friendly towards Huawei anymore! Well, not to my model! But, I finally got most of my Apps on, only Google photos is still an issue, so I now have to use Huawei Cloud storage for my photos! I'll wait for my son & his girlfriend to come down!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Joan, lovely and cool :)

Week away was a treat as always mountains do the trick to relax one.

Changing a phone is frustrating I use very few Apps on the phone, still prefer my tower desk top, keep a couple of portable backup drives in a safe place, one purely for photography.

Have fun learning your new phone, hope you setup to run smoothly once again soon, have a happy Sunday which is cooler with no rain to speak of yet!

What a lovely and bittersweet post, @joanstewart. As we age, we tend to look more back than forward. We gather our family around us, in the knowledge that it is the one thing most precious, that cannot be replaced.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother who passed away. Was it on his actual birthday? How great that you had time together before that. I tool would travel back to a time with either my parents and four siblings or a time when my three kids were still home, still young, all nestled in the nest, with nothing but family love and daily activities together to be concerned with. Yet I find today a gift. And tomorrow. And each day this life grants me. Hugs to you!

When busy growing up ourselves, or as young parents trying to guide and enjoy our children one finds the years slip by so quickly. Spending time all together seldom happens, moments like this being away are always cherished.

My older brother passed away midnight/early hours of morning, we cannot be absolutely sure if it was on his birth date or a couple of hours into the next day, very sudden with Klatskin Tumor, Doctors where still trying to diagnose cause, only revealed with autopsy.

Positive note was he never lived to see lockdowns, prohibition on alcohol, mayhem thrust at us with so many freedoms stolen in last couple of years. Holiday was four months prior his passing, absolute fun enjoying the outdoors and talking to the wee hours of the morning.

Every day may be our last, always make the most of it.

It’s hard to keep family together for occasions once parents are no longer on this planet. Your siblings sound like mine and we try to get together at least once or twice a year as we all live far apart in different Canadian provinces.

What one wouldn’t give to have another day with loved ones who passed…not only my parents but my son. All we can do is cherish their memory and be kind to those that are left.

Lovely shots. The last photo looks like a painting.

Have a wonderful weekend, Joan, 💕

My sister is the only one in a different province, considering move closer to us early next year.

We see each other relatively often when time allows, each having their own families. It is not quite the same as when parents were alive, we had a home base to return to when my brothers and I were out of province.

Thanks for visiting and chat, have a great week ahead as well.

The life is funny things, when we children we think we we live forever and do not care about anythign, wasting time sometimes. The older we are the more we appreciate the time and moments we have. The fmaily members. The fmaily is hte dearest part of our life and we should try to spend as much time as possible with our fmaily members.
