Soaring Into Spring

Secretive Hunting Through The Lens

Walking 'square circles' are an eventful occasion at least eight plus times a day in my garden, enjoy sunrise, sunsets and everything in between. This was going to effectively be posted on a Wednesday, without electricity for extended period of time, sorry it is now Thursday...

IMG_4857.JPG

Elegantly gliding into Spring, two Crowned eagles (Stephanoaetus coronatus) above calling loudly in aerial territorial courtship, unfortunately they were moving across the sky with me not able to capture the two together in flight.

IMG_4769.JPG

The Crowned eagles appear to have returned, we know last year they nested a couple hills over in tall eucalyptus trees next to residential area. Well they have sufficient meals moving through the trees in the form of Vervet monkeys, Hadeda ibis or feral/pet cats in the region to raise healthy young one.

IMG_4765.JPG

Delightful Blue-headed lizard very large agama with a broad head on top of the house roof sunning himself. Can grow to 15 inches long, this is most definitely the most stunning blue I have seen in many a year.

Breeding males have a dull blue to bluish back, with bright blue (anteriorly) to straw-yellow (posteriorly) spines and a bright cobalt-blue head. Africa Southern Tree Agama

IMG_4651.JPG

Yellow rose in the garden had a gorgeous inhabitant for two days, Yellow Striped Green Frog (Hyperolious semidiscus) these tiny frogs simply gorgeous to witness when rains arrive, they chirp in the most melodious way during the evenings.

IMG_4801.JPG

Their call is a distinctive quack-like 'yack-yack' sound, which is usually preceded by a drawn out 'eeeeeee' buzz. Males call from exposed positions in trees and bushes usually overhanging or close to water. L. natalensis is endemic to KwaZulu-Natal and the northeastern part of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Closing off on a late afternoon looking across the church gardens perched on an old tree this handsome Woolly-necked stork would not know a human was watching it's preening session.

IMG_4702.JPG

African woolly-necked stork or African woollyneck (Ciconia microscelis) a large bird that appears to enjoy our neighbourhood taking up residence and often seen floating around above on thermals.

First week into September soaring into Spring, weather bouncing around from chilly to warm conditions, similar to the mood of the people when power goes off within the next ten minutes I hastily retreat for another few hours when our power is graciously turned back on! Have a wonderful day wherever you are in the world.

How are you dear friend @joanstewart good morning
I am very sorry for all the problem you are having with the electrical supply, it is very frustrating to have something scheduled and it does not go as planned
It's good that you have a garden where you can walk and take beautiful photos. In a certain way, you can discharge bad energy.
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have shared with us

I enjoy a yard walk now and then if am not out for a walk, so your garden walk could be more enjoyable with a camera handy.

Nice shots 📷

I am in support of that, from my experience, they are nothing but a mess to the system. The reality though is I doubt they are going anywhere.

A great day to you as well.

Smaller parties need votes to make up 50 + 1 then form decent coalition to run the country. Hope people step up and do the right thing, although looking at dodgy voting around the world it is questionable.

The dodging voting around the world is why I have no hope, especially in Africa where votes are most of the time rigged.

And then we have the problem of sell-outs, those that will because of instant gain from bribery sell their right.
We've got a handful of problems to deal with.

Let's just keep Hiving on Hive. 😃

Not just Africa, most around the world are full of shit, take their people rowing up stream without a paddle.

Smile, have a great day, live and enjoy as much as one is able.

We sure are treated that way no doubt, a painful treatment that is I can't comprehend why leaders will treat there own people like that.

She came with a truck load of food from home 😃, these people just can't stop spoiling me. She is in the kitchen now making breakfast for us.

Driven by greed and power is potentially harmful!

People with little to nothing always open their doors and hearts with a smile, being spoiled by ladies you have not seen for years in the family, enjoy!

It is amazing how they are happy to share the little they have with me, it is probably one of the reasons I get emotional when they leave because I have been used to doing things myself most of my adult life, having them cook and even do my laundry is so heart melting.

I really like watching a bird of prey soar in the air. There is something so majestic about it, I can’t explain.
Lizards are so beautiful! Such bright colors!
Ha, the frog looks a lot like a leaf, great camouflage. Amazing report, I really enjoyed it, thank you😊

These eagles are stunning to watch, very definite call when going across the sky together.

Three difference types of lizards in and around the house/garden characters in themselves too.

Frog was too cute using the rose as a bed, nice and comfy tucked up tight 🤣

Here in Africa our larger lizard, the Nile monitor (Varanus niloticus) will come up in to villages and take food, this is tiny compared to them. Chameleons are seldom seen as much as we used to, something to worry about their numbers dwindling.

Ohh so you mean there is a larger lizard, bigger than the one you Snaped??

A bit of a menace to many villages, locally called leguaan or likkewaan is the Rock Monitor, seen up the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Hmmm i think have heard of that name, before leguaan, this one looks very much like snake its even bigger than it. What a lizard, this the first time am seeing one up close. But is it harm full?

Like any animal if provoked or cornered it will bite, they tend to enjoy catching chickens around rural areas or small animals.
