Not Grounded, Fly Free
Free As A Bird
Desired by many is to be rid of many restrictions imposed, birds don't encounter life as we do, yet we all enjoy the same sun and moon.
Soaring above or perched on the ground, varied birds appear not to clash often, flourishing on wing, never colliding above, some territorial will push and shove. Only arch enemies will attack when provoked which we seldom notice from below.
Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird hardly visible in the green growth along a wall with berries in season, one might have to good fortune witnessing their movement.
Grey-headed Gull striding forth along the beach between the tangled debris washed down, piercing yellow eyes, with beak and legs to match.
Photography during this last week of July
Brown-hooded Kingfisher vising the garden once again, quietly perched looking for something to eat, the kingfisher that doesn't eat fish!
The Ring-necked Dove, also known as the Cape Turtle Dove, is one of the most common birds found throughout South Africa. Gentle and exceptionally pretty little dove.
Southern Masked-Weaver with red eye, no black mask early in the season or still juvenile feeding with Bronze Mannikin one of our smallest seed eating birds visiting during the cold months of winter.
House Sparrow a regular year-round, each bird has a time or place to congregate, these seldom leave the home once settled.
Hadeda ibises another permanent feature, clearing the underground for the moles to move freely or perhaps enjoying the same meals, normally three or four arrive at a time to do gardening.
Egyptian geese on a high note another regular to our region, obviously a favourite perching spot evident from the spray paint against this black roof tiling.
Big or small appear to live together mostly in harmony, find feeding ground they enjoy then settle in for you to enjoy.
To me personally birds reflect a freedom we so long for, ability to source food without fighting over it, move around with little to bother them except high winds or heavy rain, the sun always arrives to dry out once again.

Hi there Jerry, long time no see here in Hive, thanks for visiting and love what you have done around your place.
Not sure about those lovely cats you have and how fast they are if the birds land close!
They catch a few here and there
I'm not motivated to create a lot of posts these days @joanstewart, I see YOU more often on my "feed in the weeds"

I'm not able to get my mind on practicing music these days because of the house, yard, cats etc... but I'm still puttering along.
Both of them DO catch birds and bring them in to me, along with voles
No cats in our gardens, unless a feral cat moving through, moles similar to voles (carnivores vs plant eating), dogs entertainment to try dig to the center of the earth.
It's mentally excellent for you to have the garden and cats, now I see enjoyed a night out entertaining once again, so long as you happy that is what counts toward better health.
Take care and yes I do notice you connecting in other spaces.
I would be hard pressed to try and control the flow of WILDLIFE from the woods in back and the yards of all those living near me.
My three nearest cat person neighbors, have gone to quite a lot of trouble, capturing feral cats, having them spayed/neutered then releasing them.
Doesn't stop them from feeding on the birds etc, but at least they aren't proliferating here atm
Most feral cats treated here as well, could become a problem for the little wildlife still around. Birds always a target with cats around.
Beautiful birds each have their own unique characteristics.
Great photo and great find, my brother.
Contentment is being in the garden watching the birds and insects. Thanks for visiting.
You're welcome my brother @joanstewart 🤗
Hello, dear friend @joanstewart, good afternoon.
It's true, nothing represents freedom better than birds.
I always admire the enormous number of species where you live.
Beautiful photos. I appreciate you sharing them with us.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Always fascinated me since young the freedom of movement, ability to take care of themselves sourcing or building their homes.
Lovely cold weather passing through again today. No water or internet here today, my son tethered my phone to connect for a short while.
Your bird photos are gorgeous Joan!
If we could only be as free as a bird!
I hear you, it would be grand to move around without much worry. We carry too much baggage forever worrying what tomorrow will bring.
Beautiful gallery of birds.🙂 The gull very much looks like our blackheaded ones.

I love your choice of a song.
We have larger gulls, I think the seaside you have so many to select from throughout the year when down along the waters edge.
Your last paragraph reminds me about the song below.
I remember that song, think I heard it on the radio to/from work in the car. Birds brings so much happiness, imagination the strongest of them all.
As free as a bird indeed. Great pics Joan and I had to enlarge the first pic to see that Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird.
Have a wonderful new week :)
